You can try Bag Balm, that will help. My hounds are like that most of the running season, I just let them heal on their own.

is the dog losing a significant amount of blood while hunting? If not don't worry about it too much. Put a little bag balm on it if you want. You can tape it if you want. But if the dog isn't losing a lot of blood its not a big deal.

Man that is nothing compared to my Annie dog, hers is bald from the tip down about as long as your pinky. Yes she bleeds and sometimes bad, you can see the red on her black spots from her tail wagging. But I keep a close eye on her and she never seems to get down or slow down. She hits the brush from start to finish. I just give her a little bonus treats at the end of the day to help replace anything she lost from bleeding. I plan on docking her tail about 2 inches this summer. I hate to do it, cause she has won just about every bench event that I have put her in, but is rough in the field portion. So since she is not really a trial contender, I am going to do what I can to make her more comfortable while in the briars. Don't know about the uck, but from what I am told at spo/akc trials minimal docking does not disqualify you, but it will hurt your overall bench score. Just my 2 cents.

it means she was in heat and i kenneled her three full weeks and her tail never got hair on it or looked better after not running one time. The pics are after a two hour hunt Saturday and a two hour hunt Sunday...
She looks like a blood bath after she is done....
the bench show judge got gloves to put on when she saw my dog
She is in the corner now licking it while whimpering.. I think the tip may be gangreen or infected... its all black.. that part of her tail will never grow back hair i dont think
I am gonna tape it up with the blue paint tape and neosporin next hunt because i'm tired of bathing her cause she is covered in blood.....I know judges aren't supposed to let that affect their score but i think seeing so much blood caked on does....

Put a rubber band on it. Leave some white on the tail showing. Should fall off by end of hunting season.

if it is botherin her or u i would dock it.pee on a bench show i put more in to how they are in the field, besides a bench show is just another man's opinion.i use castrating bands that they use on bulls u can get them at tractor supply and the pliers to put them on with.make sure u pull all the hair back out from under the band this will help cover the bone when the tail falls off it takes about 2 weeks...........

Are the dogs penalized on the bench show for having docked tails?
I just put a castration band on one of my male's tail and the end of the tail is drying up. I put the band on a piece of 3/4 copper pipe and put the dogs tail inside the pipe and rolled the band off the pipe onto the tail. I used a funnel to run the band up on and then slipped the pipe on the funnel and rolled the band back onto the pipe. The band is small and very tight.

Looks like a huntn dogs tail to me, don't band it's fine. My hounds probably twice that bad. Never cared for a hound with a docked tail, kinda looks my jack russell. Just spray a little blue coat on it, and giddy up.
