Finished January with a Bang - 24 on the tailgate

I set out to finish the month out with a bang and sure enough we did. Saturday we loaded up hounds and took a trip to north central missouri area for a hunt with thompson. He knew of some spots that held some rabbits. We turned loose on some hard crusty snow. Scenting wasn't the best but the dogs still managed to get things going. We had a few decent runs and several good bed jumps followed by sight chasing. Those are always the best. After a days hunt we were able to knock out 11 bunnies. It was a good hunt and a good time hunting with them guys.

Sunday we set out to hunt with Michael and Doug. I've hunted on Michael's farm for the past few years. We try and hunt it once a year always towards the end of the season. Rabbits are always plentiful on his property. The cover is perfect and the running is always killer. On this hunt 4 hunters total each took their limit for a total of 24 rabbits. Only 23 made it to the tailgate because the pack decided they needed a lunch break and ate one of the wounded rabbits. I've got that on video and I wasn't to happy about it.....lol you'll have to check it out.

Here is the video link for both saturday and sunday's hunt. I didn't get much video so I put them together. I've got a little bit of everything. From some shooting at the begining to another retrieve from my dog leah to some fast pace running caught on film to leah bringing me a rabbit head and the dogs eating the other half. Lots to look at in the video

On the property were several of these hi-ways. All you had to do was set up on one of these paths and the rabbits would come running down them...lol

One of the best runs of the day was thru these cedars. Man they poured it on that rabbit they were right on his tail

Here we are after the days hunt. We put in some hours to pull this off. 23 rabbits on the tailgate and One rabbit leg and head hung in the tree after the pack had lunch....lol We were hunting over a pack of 10dogs. 4 of them are pups out of Junie X Leah. 2 of the black and white males are out of IFC Riley Rolling Trails.

yes I am very thankful to hunt the many places that we do. These guys that I hunted with on Sunday had a blast they always invite me up every year. They do not own any hounds. Before they met me they use to kick brush. Well they found out its a whole lot fun with hounds.

I believe this has been the most we've ever taken on a hunt in all my hunting.

Nice hunt Joeyman!! Do you have more fun running and gunning the dogs or meeting and hanging out with all the new people???

BTW, with all them rabbits you'll have to try a crockpot full of swamphunters stew. I made some last week and the kids gobbled it up. I gave some to my dad and brother and they ate the heck out of it and then even let a couple of their buddies at work try it that loved it too.

Also btw, your fried and then baked in the oven with gravy recipe is killer too. I've done it once from start to finish your way. The rest of the time I fry up the rabbit to eat that way because the kids love fried rabbit. Any leftovers(if there are any) I take the next day and put them into a glass dish smothered with gravy and warm it back up. The gravy keeps it from drying out when you warm it up and it goes great with mashed potatoes and some biscuits.

Man, I just ate and now I'm getting hungry again!!

Anyway, how many more 1-2 hunts/year places do you have left to hit this season?

I've got a few places up my sleeve yet to hit. But We're having a very bad blizzard type snow storm. I don't know how the hunting is going to be in 20inches of snow. I'm gonna try though

yes it will. The high for this weekend suppose to be 34. I'll wait till about 11:00am to drop hounds. I know a spot its like a very thick wood draw. its normally very loaded with rabbits. I go this time every year. I know the rabbits will be in there. We'll see how they run.

Really nice hunting. I didn't SEE that many rabbits all season, lol. I've got some pretty good dogs, but I think the rabbits you have on the tailgate equals to about the whole population of rabbits in my county, lol.
