Michigan Residents, Question?
What is the law for running hare out of season? Don't yall have a time during the year that you can not run dogs?
Thanks in advance for for replying.

Re: Michigan Residents, Question?
I believe it is April 16th until July 8th, used to be July 15th but I believe for some reason it was July 8th this year.

Re: Michigan Residents, Question?
You can train dogs on "fox" during the closed season in zone 3 (lower part of state), with a permit given by the DNR

Re: Michigan Residents, Question?
hd ultra the reason training season was changed from july 15 to july 8 was because of bear hunters that hunt over bait complaining to the dnr about the bear hunters running bear with dogs. The dnr put in a week long quiet period in effect prior to the opening of the first bear season so after the hunting dog associations got involved they worked out a deal to go along with the quiet period if the dnr would open up training season a week earier. At least that's what I was told by one of the guys that was working with dnr on the issue on behalf of hound owners.

The shorter, the better. Thanks.
Re: Michigan Residents, Question?
I'm pretty sure its April 15th not 16th but the 8th is definitely correct. Man this is awesome I didn't realize we had so many beaglers on here from lower Michigan. I love it! May you all have a great rabitt season and a Merry Christmas. I love this state

Re: Michigan Residents, Question?
I love this state too, but can't wait for our new governor.
April 15th to July 8th. Way too long if you ask me. No one told the hawks, owls, barn cats, fox, and coyote it's quiet time. My little beagle won't hurt as much as the other critters that don't have to follow the law

Re: Michigan Residents, Question?
I some what agree on both parties as to running hounds at this time, but I wish they would not stop us from running on our own property, I pay taxes and cant do as I please on my own property, this is the only thing I dont agree with
Re: Michigan Residents, Question?
You can run on your own property during this time. All you have to do is tell the DNRE that its a training area and they will give you a permit to run there. The permit is free and it last for 3 years, Just fill out the form and mark on the section grid where the area is and your good to go. I've done this for the last ten years. My area is fenced in but it doesn't have to be.

Give me a week or so, just had knee scoped out and carpel tunnel surgery, I'll be ready to run soon. Cabin fever is setting in bad.
