Guys, help me choose a stud dog for my bitch.I have looked and searched and I'm still lost as ever.I will let you guys pick and who ever receives the most votes win. The only things I might add is the dog must be in eastern ky, southern ohio or in the western part of WV.I want some size to these pups because the bitch is 13''. The color is not a factor but I want LP style dog. This bitch is Ellisons Ridge Redman, Cress's Big Red Tracker on top and Northway Ninja, Indian Hills on bottom. Guys do your magic because she is due in any day!!!! Thanks

That could be a tough assignment based on the limited info. provided. Can you list her major strengths and weaknesses? The key is to pick a stud that will complement and add to what you already have in the bitch. :D

The female hunts hard is clean with her mouth and excels at jumping rabbits. She is what I like to call a "tweener". She falls somewhere between LP and PP.She has a 5,7,9.10 in LP and a 1st in PP. She also placed in the top 30 of the PP US Championship this year out of 273 dogs. What I love most is the fact that she trashproof and the perfect gundog. Sorry guys my head swelled there for a minute!!!! LOL!!!

Yea, I have pup from Syris and I like him real well. Smart and hunts reallly hard. Wouldnt be afraid to take my bitch to Matt Glomskis - Dream boat hound- has info on his web site. Either would be excellent choice

if you like a 15' inch dog you could possibly try a northway male and they are deffinetly lp style. im a little biased because i run them myself. theres a old northway male in e.ky named reffetts ky mnt sampson that has probly produced 6 or 8 grand champions and im not sure how many champions. hes double spur bred. if your interested i could tell you more about his breeding. i like it very much, i wouldent recommend this at all but ive gun hunted his pups at 6 months old and killed rabbits off of them

If you are looking to add size I have a couple that I would recommend in Eastern Kentucky. Lynn Perkins has a Grand Champion named Buzz Saw(Northway) that is a very good dog with good line control and excellent hunt, medium fast speed. Dexter Reffet owns Sampson(Northway) he is a lemon and white dog that stamps hunt in all of his pups. There is also a young Bluetick male champion dog by the name of Code Blue(Turbo Powered by Prop) owned by John and MIke Maynard. I don't know if he has been bred yet or what he is producing but he is a full 15 inches fast and hunts harder than any big dog I have ever seen. Sampson is getting pretty old so if you want to breed to him you better make it quick. I think he is about 12 years old now, but is still producing.

I'd go with the northway or tracker line .

If you don't mind driving to western KY, I'd recommend Syris also. I have a pup out of him that is doing just great. Have heard a lot of people bragging on his pups as well. Syris is near 15", but I'd guess you'd get some 13s and 15s. The other good thing about Syris is that he has great conformation - he is a good looking hound. Jamie Hilbert will be able to give you much more specific info. about Syris and what he is producing. Good luck and let us know what you end up doing. :D

Sounds like your bitch has a lot of outcrosses but there is some Northway in her. If it was me I'd definately go see Dexter Reffett and breed to his Sampson dog (Northway breeding) to add more Northway to your pups, or find another good Northway male. The Northway blood is well known for it's hunt and stamina, which sounds like it would compliment your female very well.

Whatever you choose to do, good luck!

Thanks for all the replies guys, I have spoken with Dexter this week and I've looked at Syris McGee, both dogs would be excellant choices. Keep those votes coming in I'm keeping tabs and she's due any day. When she gets bred I'll keep you posted on the pups and their progress so lets see if we can make the perfect cross!!!!

I would recommend Sampson however his age is working against you it is possible for a miss. Dexter has a male dog named Black Magic out of Sampson that looks real Nice. Lynn Perkins also has a good hound in Buzz Saw he is out of Rockstar. I have a couple females out of Sampson and the pups out of them do well. I also have a Rockstar male that I am impressed with. You might want to call Paul Kormany and see if he is going to have Northway Slim Jim or Northway Billy Jack back at Dexter's. Either one of those 4 hounds should cross well with your female.
