how did you train your dogs to run deer.

we start our dogs out at around 4 to 5 months old, just walking around our land. then we put them with one of our older dogs, which is a old black@tan,she is slow but she is true to the track she won't run nothing but a deer. it helps if you can get a broke dog to help your puppies. we also look for deer to turn directly out on, which down here in n.c. is not a problem. whenever possible i like to use this method,it will tell you if the dogs are gonna be eat up with it,or you need to work a little harder.i give a dog 2 years to show by then they run or you give them away.good thing about beagles they make great pets also. let me know if you have any luck.

I was being sarcastic...I am from Missouri, and a beagle running a deer is a big no no...the hound doesn't stay in my kennel if it likes to run deer...

no need for sarcasm, alot of places down south you can enjoy running deer with dogs. our training methods will also work for your rabbit dogs, subsitute the rabbit for the deer.as for deer running beagles they will always have a home at BAD COMPANY KENNELS! I LOVE ALL BEAGLES!

I feel for those that will never enjoy the sound of hounds running a deer and the blast of the shotgun as they come by.

Nothing like the sound of a pack of hounds on a rutting buck! But my experience is that good deer beagles are a dime a dozen. It takes a lot more to make a good rabbit beagle. Most beagles that don't have the gears, brains and nose to run a rabbit line can still burn up a deer w/ out a single loss. Much much more scent to work with. All you have to cull for in a deer beagle is one that can't find his way back to the truck.

i agree it takes a better nose on rabbits, but it is'nt what you chase but the love of doing the chasing with a pack of beagles!be it rabbits or deer we are houndsmen or women just the same,it is the chase not the kill that makes us happy.as for coming back to the truck only my young dogs do that,my hammers as i like to call them all have tracking collars and don't quit running till they are ready.i am not trying to rock the boat,i like rabbit hunting to but running deer is my passion and it is a pretty big deal down here in southeast n.c.so whatever you run as long as it is legal and done ethically,ROCK ON

BEAGLES RULE

I'LL TAKE THREE DOZEN GOOD DEER BEAGLES FOR THAT PRICE!
I disagree with you on this because we apparently have a different meaning of a
good deer beagle. I agree that a lot of beagles will run deer just like they will run rabbits but each type rabbit or deer beagles has the good ones and the bad ones.If I can them that cheap there tell me where they are .

bunnyseeker,i have a lemon beagle that is due any day now, planning on selling the puppies.both of the parents are the best deer beagles i own,the mother is a lemon the sire is a spotted tri-colored beagle, both are 15 inch beagles.they won't be a dime a dozen but they won't hurt your pocket either.

Hey guys didn't mean that to sound insulting...about the price of deer beagles. Not my intent at all....just meant that if you visit this site or any of the other beagle you will sooner or later see people giving away deer runners.
