box traooing rabbits

Any tips on box trapping rabbits? not having much luck.

first you need to put it in a populated area......i set mine then pour apple juice on it and around it.......

I am having alotof trouble catching rabbits too. I have one that is in my yard every night and I can't catch. I have tried everything. Cage traps and box traps. I have used apples, onions, corn, lettuce, and i have even tried putting vanilla extract on the bait nothing is working. I would love to catch about 3 or 4 to put in my starting pen. Over the last 2 years I have only caught 2 rabbits. None this year. Anybody else have any suggestions. I would love to hear them.

Try using unpopped popcorn,put a little on the ground and then some in a dish in the trap.Surprisingly i have had great luck with this,happy hunting...scott

What about snowshoe hares? I am building a few traps. Are they any harder to catch than rabbits?

Any tips?

go to beagles unlimited I think they have some stuff about catching them in there

Hare are pretty easy to trap if there are lots of them. Seems that numbers make them competetive for food. Most people put out poplar or apple branches along with the traps. Leave the traps closed for a few days. Open the traps, bait with apples and/or second cut alfalfa hay. Vanilla or maple extract or apple cider vinigar seems to work for some. I like a trap about 9" square by 24" long. Best to bait the traps last thing in the evening, to avoid catching squirrels. If all you catch are squirrels, use alfalfa only. You can put 4 traps in about a 6-8 ft. area. If you catch one, it seems to attract another. Hope this helps.
