shock collar
I was wondering if something like the sportdog 2500 is too big for beagles or should i purchase the smaller ones such as the sportdog 800 or the tri tronics sport basic g3? Do you need a 1 1/2 range or would the 1/2 mile be sufficient?

Re: shock collar
Just purchased the sportdog 2500 at the beginning of the season here and in Va and love it, the only down fall i see if the transmitter is bigger then the other models but can live with that, all my beagles are 11 to 13 inch and they have no problems plus you can save yourself a ton of money between them in tri-tronics and the range is only what the company says if you live in the perfect flat and no obstruction areas which few people in the country do.

Sportdog just came out with a 3225 Hound hunter it is small and will take of six dogs, My 3200 is a four dog system but works well both have 2 mile range but i have have never let my dogs go that far !
Re: shock collar
I have a 2500 SportDog Pro Hunter like new in the equipment for sale section , expandable to 6 collars
although it only comes with 3 collars paperwork , case , CD and extra chargers for all $300.00 .The 2500
is not too big for beagles and comes with one of the best warranties in the business .

Re: shock collar
I would want to see what my dogs are doing before I shock them so for me a 1/2 mile range is far enough.

Good luck with the 1/2 mile range. You will be spending a lot of time looking for your dogs.I would want to see what my dogs are doing before I shock them so for me a 1/2 mile range is far enough.
In real thick cover my 2 mile unit will not get out over 400 yards. Save your money and get a 1 1/2 to 2 mile unit.

Re: shock collar
I`d rather have the range & never need it than need it & not have it.
Re: shock collar
I agree. I had a Sport dog 2500, Tritronics G3, and now have the Tritronics Trashbreaker. I think the Trashbreaker is the best unit on the market, the most expensive, but worth the money. All collars will at best get about half the range advertised in near ideal conditions. Get into heavy brush and expect a few hundred yards at best. The worst problem you're gonna have with hounds is trash running and by the time you figure out they are on trash they will be out of range of a cheaper 1/2 mile unit.Freeman Beagles wrote:Good luck with the 1/2 mile range. I live back in the woods you see, my woman and the kids and the dogs and me.
Re: shock collar
those dogs if running deer can be way over 1/2 mile before you know what they are doing then you could stil be mistaken if they have jumped a big running rabbit n they are out there and plenty of them unlesss your running walkie talkie dogsCentMo7023 wrote:I would want to see what my dogs are doing before I shock them so for me a 1/2 mile range is far enough.
