I had the dogs out Saturday and just on loaded in the parking lot and my male started to howl and carry on my wife got to him and he was in a trap caught by the back leg. He wasn`t heart that bad my wife helled him till i got there to take the trap off good thing she was there or it could of been worse. Just wanted to let people know that theres some people out there that don`t have any respected for other hunters and there sport. This guy set the trap right along side the edge of the parking lot like he wanted to catch some ones dogs in it there wasn`t any bait just barred in a shallow hole.

NOT WANTING TO START A ARGUMENT. I AM A TRAPPER AND ALSO HUNT BEAGLES AND FEIST DOGS LOVE ALL THREE. IF U ARE HUNTING STATE GROUND THE TRAPPER HAS JUST AS MUCH RIGHT TO B THERE AS U DO. IF U R HUNTING SOMEONE ELSES GROUND AND THEY HAVE PERMISSION THEY HAVE AS MUCH RIGHT THERE AS U ALSO. I HAVE A BUDDY THAT BOUGHT A COON DOG OUT OF IOWA THAT PAID BIG MONEY FOR A STARTED WALKER DOG 3500.00 HUNTED IT TWICE AND FOUND HER DEAD IN A CONNIBEAR HE WAS SICK BUT THEY HAD JUST AS MUCH RIGHT TO TRAP THE WOODS AS HE DID TO HUNT IT. IT IS A CHANCE WE ALL TAKE EVERY TIME WE UNHOOK THE SNAP. SORRY ABOUT YOUR DOG AND I HOPE HE MAKES A FULL RECOVERY.

mountain mafia, it appears we got 2 different opinions out of beagletrainer's post.

I didn't get anything out of his post about rights this and rights that that you were rambling about..........what I read was where a trapper placed a trap next to a parking lot irresponsibly.

Yes, I agree trappers have same rights if they have permission -- they should place traps responsible.

While that wasn't what beagletrainer's post was about, it appears you wanted to turn it into a hunter vs trapper thread.

Aren't trappers supposed to post some sort of sign indicating that they have set traps in an area?

I dont know about Indiana Bev, but they dont have to in Ohio. Only thing they have to do is have tags on each trap with name and home address.

I im not nocking the trappers but lets be real the guy that set the trap knows that theres other guys that use that spot to hunt bird hunters and rabbit hunters a like. This guy has no respect for his fellow hunters. Im all for trapping we need more trappers out there to take care of the yotes fox coon theres just to many out there killing rabbits. But just to set traps in parking lots right were dogs are unload thats just disrespect of the other huters. This trap didn`t have any bait it just had a little dirt covering it like the guy wanted to catch some ones dogs. I have his name and address off the trap if i find any more of his traps in parking lots im going to the wardens to see what they can do.

Mountain Mafia<I too trap and try to take every precaution to not catch dogs, but sometimes it happens. Now if the trap was set right next to a parking lot, this is a unresponsible action taken by a fellow sportsman.Trapping has been under the gun for several years and unresponsible acts like that don't help.If and when trapping is banned, you can bet hunting and fishing will follow right behind. Was it that trappers right to set there, yes. Was it a responsible thing to do,no.As another note, the trap could have been set by a kid that didn't know better. We have to all get along as the outofdoors seems to be getting smaller every year.

Agree they have the rights too, but some common sence on where they put them would be a good idea, next to a parking lot where anyone could get hurt isnt to smart, jmo and if one of my children were caught at a parking lot in one, I hope there is a tag with name and address on it.....

i dont see where the trapper was irresponsible, when ya set traps you want them in easily checked spots, like roadways where pipes, ditches etc are, there is no safty zone on traps, just need a tag with name address on it here in pa.if the trap had a tag on it you could contact the trapper and voice your unhappiness with him/her but other than that what could ya do?in pa disturbing someones traps is breaking a law---so your answer is---cause he is choosing to enjoy his sport i will violate game codes cause it interferes with mine.--good to see the integretee of the beagler world is what it is.
i agree with mafia man 100%---it may pee some off but its part of life and being in the woods,if ya dont want to take that risk then stay in a club fence grounds.
i would be more disgusted with folks breaking glass bottles,or dumping roof shigles with nails and etc than someone who is legally doing what they choose.
the dog i had get in a trap before hunted after we took it off--no damage

I agree! I don't like traps because of the chance your dog might get caught in it, but its there right to trap there, if you don't like it don't go there!
