Female due to whelp any day....has fleas

Post by Lance »

Noticed several fleas on my female tonight. She's due to whelp any day. Bathed her in Dawn dishwashing liquid...seemed to kill the fleas....What can I put on her to keep them away that would be safe?

Thanks,

i just used frontline on my female when my pups were a week old seems to have killed all fleas.. just took this fron there web page

Why FRONTLINE?
•Proven protection. FRONTLINE Plus killed 100% of fleas within 12 hours of application.**
•Long lasting: continues to kill fleas and ticks all month long.
•Approved for use on puppies and kittens 8 weeks of age and older and on breeding, pregnant or lactating cats and dogs.
•Waterproof: effective even after swimming, bathing and grooming

looks like you will be ok

I would bath her again and move her to a different area to have the pups. If she has fleas, they and their eggs are present in her box, bedding and surrounding area. I would move her to a different area to whelp, while treating the kennel and surrounding area with borax or some flea treatment making sure time has elapsed for the eggs to have hatched and been killed also, before returning her and the pups to the kennel.
Your unborn puppies do not meet the 8 week old requirement of the Frontline or other poisons to be used on dogs.

This is just what I would do to get mother and puppies off to a good start...jmho
