I know this is off topic but was wondering if any one here has any experience fishing the Outer Banks of NC near Nags Head. We are going next month and are going blind. Any bit of information is appreciated.

I live not far from OBX I may be able to put you in contact with a charter boat captain. What part of the island are you gonna be staying?

South of Naggs Head is Buxton. The Red Drum bait shop, those guys will point you in the right direction.

Great place to start!! there are several other bait shop's that will answer questions and even rent equipment, you can also try the marina at Oregon Inlet for fishing charters.
If you want to drive south there are some great charters available out of the marina's in Hatteras Village.Hope you have a great trip,my family loves the outer banks!! :D :D
P.S. here is the name of a web site that will help outerbanksfishing.com .

Been going there for the last 15 yrs, great place to fish! my in-laws own a place there. we stay in the Avon area, stop in at Frank and Friends bait shop they will set you up with everything you need. if you fish off the beach or in the sound you will need a fishing license. they run about $10. If you fish out of Hatteras contact randy turner for a fishing charter, great capt . The weather should be cooling down some by the time you get there fishing should be better then the warmer months.
Good luck!

Thanks for the info. We are staying in South Nags Head and planning 7 days of pure fishing. Should be interesting.

The point at buxton go past hatteras light house and drive south on the beach to the point. I have pulled in blues one cast after the other untill my arms gave out . You never know what you will catch there . I have hooked some big fish that I never got in there and saw others catch big Drum and shark spanish . If you have wife and kids they can hunt shells thats what mine do and we take more shells home than fish . You need 4x4 to drive on beach lower your air preasure in tires to 15- 20 lb I like fishing at night there are ghost crabs on the beach at night with a long handled net that you can get from Frank % Frans in avon or the red drum in buxton walk along the beach with a light lantern or flash light and catch the crabs with the net when I was younger I used my hands they will pinch you so grab be hind the claw remove claw they have a soft shell and are best used two at a time on a slider rig with a drum circle hook that you can get when you get the net . Wish I was going this year. OH yea don't forget the gaf if you get it to the breaks on the beach you need something to drag it up on the beach with bare hands not recomended for some species. You will wish you had your dogs when you cross pea Island Rabbits every where blue tails early and late they come out of that thick cover and feed on the road . I have a contact on inshore charters out of hatteras if your interested let me know he works with a spotter plane to find drum bass etc. Good Luck and if take my advice and your standing there in the moon light lisining to your drag screem as the line peals off your spool remember don't tighten it all the way down till you see the end of the spool the more line out the better to fight him with.
