A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
It seems to me that Turbo Powered by Prop is a popular name in alot of dogs peds now a days. I was wondering what kind of dog was he? The main thing for me a dog has got to have alot of hunt. I don't want a lazy dog. Did Turbo have alot of hunt? What where his pros and cons? Was he trialed more than guned over? The same questions apply to Ironeagle and Blue Barry. When I start breeding rabbit dogs the biggest thing, for me, is to breed hard hunting, brush busting hounds. Anybody who can give me some info on this it would be very helpful. I plan on raising bluetick and redtick hounds. If there are any other hard hunting bluetick or redtick dogs out there please let me now. Thanks in advance.
And one more thing. It seems a few people say you need to look at the abilties of the hound and not the color. I have heard people say you need to look under the hood and not the paint job. Well I want bluetick or redtick dogs and thats what I plan to raise. And to people who say this. There are plenty of trucks out there with a V-8 but if you was going to buy one you would buy the color you want, RIGHT.
I dont know the answers to most of your questions as my experience with the named dogs are nil, but i did own a female that was out of Iron eagle and while she made a decent hound, she was so hard on the eyes that I let her go. I'm not sure where she got her awful looking head from, but was told it came from the eagle side of her by more than one person...long pointy nose, thin head and face...definately would never win anything on the bench!
However, that being said, if a dog can run the snot out of a rabbit and do it right, I dont care if it's pink with purple poka dots, but I do want decent conformation.
Hey,
I just bought a pup sired by Blue Barry. He is 4 months old and I have had him about 3 wks. So far he is doing what I expect. I can't wait to get him out in the field but we aren't there yet. Email me and I will send ya some pictures of him.
I've only seen Turbo and he stayed busy. Not a jump hound but very busy with his search. He threw alot of hunt into some of his pups. On the flip side, I've seen some that had no hunt whatsoever.
I have seen a lot of pups with Turbo in their pedigree, most of them had a lot of hunt; however I have seen quite a few of them that cold trailed pretty bad. I don't know if they got that from Prop of from the Bitch side but nevertheless I have seen quite a few that had a little bit too much nose for me. I haven't seen anything out of Iron Eagle so I can't give an opinion on him. Everything that I have seen out of Blue Barry was ate up with hunt. Most of them were Blueticks and they would just flat out tear the briars up. I have even thought about getting a pup out of him, and I don't keep many dogs out of lines different than what I currently run. I would really like have a pup out of Blue Barry crossed onto a hard hunting Northway Bitch.

I have a good bit of experience with Turbo dogs. So far, everything I've seen has a bunch of hunt. I own or have owned about 5 Turbo dogs myself, and have ran with 15 or more other turbo hounds through out the years, and I'm sure many more than that at trials. Some of these were the hardest hunting hounds I've ever seen. A few come to mind RCH Talkabout Code Blue is the hardest hunting 15" male I've seend in a long time(owner John and Mike Maynard). The hardest hunting 15" female I've seen in a long time, Jr's Flying Alley(Owner Matt Basiletti), and I have Talkabout Turbo, a young dog but hunts like he's comming out of has skin...I know there are many others, but just a few people you can talk to.
As far as color, I love my blue dogs, but it's funny the best dog I own or have ever owned is Tri-color. I guess it's because is mom was Bluetick.<g>
I have an Eagle male, He isn`t the best in the world but he is the best in my world. He earned a AKC F.C. title and he earned a NKC champion title. He is just an awesome hound thats live to run a rabbit or hare.I will own another Eagle hound.
Turbo-Never seen Turbo himself but own one from him and have seen and judged a few. Most i have seen hunt on the run like bird dogs and my female can get her self in trouble by claiming to quick, not as much cold trailing but being to competative.I have no trouble with her being that way because while others hounds are standing around the owners feet or standing there looking at the briars the turbo dogs are in the briars bringing the meat.
Eagle-He is nice, hunts hard, good speed, snap back to the point of lose and drive the check out.I'll agree with darrin on this, some of his pups would not win a beauty contest but hey if they run a rabbit good so be it.I like eagle enuff that i breed my turbo female to him, should be nice but who knows, sure someone will say different.
Bluebarry-Don't know much about him or haven't seen any pups from him run.I owned a pup from him not long ago,(sold it) didn't like it's looks and seen it a few months later and still glad i sold it.

Best dog I ever seen run was out of Turbo, and no he wasnt mine. ( Powells Turbo Showboat) then he had a brother that went through the ranks in P.P. fairly quick also ( Powells Turbo Dreamboat).
I have listed on this site all the champs and grands out of Turbo, I think the count is somewhere around 25 or so.
I think that speaks pretty highly of what he throws.
As far as the other 2 dogs you have mentioned I know nothing about them.
I was trying to remember any Iron Eagle hounds I've seen run, I forgot all about Tim. He is a VERY nice hound. One of the best all around hounds I've seen run in a while. If this is typical of what Iron Eagle produces then I like it.
Have heard about Code Blue before and I like what I'm hearing about him.
Can anyone tell me where he's located or give me more info on him. Thinking of breeding to him when my bitch comes in season this summer.
John and Mike Maynard own him. I think both of them post on here from time to time. I have only seen him once and although we didn't have a lot of running he was impressive. He is a full 15 inches and a pretty good looking dog. He is kind of leggy. He hunted like a machine and showed very good speed also.
