Another Good Rabbit Dog Passes Away

Post by Pete Tuck »

My Ace dog died this morning. He was 13 and1/2 years old, and his health was getting progressively worse, but he still had it in him to run rabbits every chance he got. As a matter of fact, that's how he died. Ace was run over this morning running a rabbit. Ace had been retired for the last couple of years, but my cousin would turn him out every night and listen to Ace run a rabbit. Every mornin Ace would be asleep on the porch when Charlie would leave to go to work. Ace was a very good rabbit dog. I can't think of a time when I was trialing him that his cast would have to awarded a winner because no rabbit was produced. Ace would, as my Granddaddy would say, make a rabbit. I'm sure if they have trouble getting one going in Heaven, they won't anymore, because Ace should be there now. RIP in Ace. You sure made my rabbit hunting a pleasure.

Sorry to hear that Pete, Ole Ace was a true jump dog. I judged him quite a bit and he could always make a rabbit.

Pete I think a great jump male is the most valuable of all beagles and I sure hate to see you lose one. I hope you can find you another one just as good.

Thanks fellas. I will definitely miss the old man. He put on quite a few outstanding performances out in the field. Many of which I will never forget. Once after I just got him, I took him to a place where the opening day of rabbit season we only jumped 3 rabbits. I jumped 2 of them myself. At the end of that day we jumped 8 rabbits and Ace jumped every single one of them. Great memories.
