Question AND I"M NOT TRYING TO START A FIGHT!!!
I have noticed that there are a lot of Branko bred dogs for sale. Why? Is it just the pure numbers of them or what? I'd like to hear from Branko owners only! Do they have traits that are not liked by most? Are you banking on the hopes that you get a champion because of the bloodline?
please, NO BASHING!!!

dogs for sale
Branko is the buzz word in beagling now. Any dog with one cross in a 6 generation pedigree is branko bred according to some folks that post dogs for sale on the board. Due to sheer numbers you will see a lot of Branko dogs for sale. The KRpans sell in excess of 100 puppies per year(this is conservative as I don't know the exact numbers) Many folks out their have these dogs and cross them with the same line or other line thus getting what folks may call Branko breeding. The numbers that you have for sale are due more than anything to the sheer number of dogs that are considered to be Branko Bred. I have owned one dog with Heavy Branko breeding and I got rid of him. I have one now that has one cross of Branko in a 6 generation pedigree and I do not consider her to be branko bred, I consider her to be Northway breeding as everything else in her pedigree is Northway breeding. This is only my opinion of course. In my opinion the Branko line is just like any other it has some good ones and some bad ones. But there are a whole lot more dogs with this breeding in them than most other bloodlines that are being run today.

I bought a Branko bred dog from a friend ,hes out of Branko,s jack tracker and Branko,s Amy ,I,ve on,y had him a bout 2 mos .
My buddie paid I think 325.00 for him ,plus we drove to Illinois to pick him up which is bout 2 hours away, plus he paid 90.00 $ to start him .
Anyway this was 2 years ago ,he was 7 weeks old at the time,we got him
and he was very shy,he started at 6 mos and was very hard to catch.
My buddie had him out maybe 5 times in the 2 years, and my buddie fell in love ,now hes chaseing women he got rid of all his dogs ,I got this dog for bout 75.00 in a trade for a gun ..
This dog will run his own rabbit ,run with other dogs and he,s not scared to death anymore ,i was kinda scared to get him but hes working out just fine, needs the shtt run out of him ,i,ll know more by summertime ..
I,ve had him out more times in the last 2 mos then he had him out in 2 years ,maybe he,ll make a good one maybe not who knows, this is the only paper dog Ihave the rest are grade.rbinford1

If you look in trial results in AKC, ARHA, and UKC, there are countless dogs of Branko descent that win and place. Plus, in hunting packs all over the country there are Branko dogs. The Krpans have had an amazing influence on beagling. Whether you like Branko dogs or not, I think their contribution to the breed is undeniable.
As to why there are so many for sale--there are so many. And as Big Dog said, any dog, even with only one cross of Branko, is considered a Branko dog.

Branko dogs
The only Branko bred dog is one that Branko or Freida Krpan have bred themselves or supervised the breeding of using their bloodlines. You and I and Joe Blow in Beagledom do not have Branko bred hounds UNLESS Branko bred them!!! More correctly we have Branko blood in our dogs.
I have Branko breeding behind my hounds ( I.F.C. Maravic's Blue Ninja and Branko's Jack of all Trades. ) I am very pleased with them.
Other than Frank Reese nobody has had the impact on beagling that Branko has had. Not in numbers or in champions made. When you're number 1 you're out there in the public eye and everybody can take a shot at you. I met Branko this past October and visited with him for a couple of hours. He is without a doubt one of the most knowledgeable dog men there is.

Re: Branko dogs
What do the Krpan base their hounds on? Speed? Line control? If at all possible I'd like to hear from them too. To see if you and Joe Blow down the road are breeding to their standards.

Branko
Covered pretty well except you left out Willet Randall and the patch hounds. thanks to those who have kept those hounds going. a Branko dog comes from Branko. no way you can compete with them they have too large of gene pool , good selection process and have tons of experience. not to say a small timer cant breed good hounds but the more genetic material and animals one has to select and cull from then the likely hood of producing superior hounds is increased. peace

I have had 3 Branko dogs that came right out of Canada from Branko. None of them were what I would consider to be above average rabbit dogs. They all hunted hard but that was all they had. I have a full 15 inch son of Turbo by Prop & Branko's Bring em Home Beth, that Branko recommended the breeding, and I would sell him today if I could find a buyer. All the ones I have tried were from different backgrounds so I would say I gave them a fair shot and they failed to impress me. I have a family of grade dogs that hunt harder, start faster, stay straighter, and control the pack better. I'll stick to that.
The reason you see so many Branko dogs is because everyone is looking to add blood that will fix the faults of the dog they are breeding. They assume the solid line bred Branko dogs can help. If the dog you are going to breed has faults that need fixing don't breed it.

Branko has been a buzz-word for years, and there's obviously a reason for their popularity with trialers and hunters. On the flip-side, with the sheer numbers of dogs they put out, some level of success is bound to happen. I don't think anyone has the available data to make a judgement on whether Branko's successes are more due to ability or just the number of dogs they put out.
I don't like the kind of mass-production breeding they do, but in my humble opinion, they are thorough about it and aren't just putting out trash for the sake of selling pups.
