Quick question everybody...Here's my situation. I have an 8 month old female that seems to be doing very well. She jumps her own rabbit, and runs it very well until the first check. She uses her nose very well, but she searches really wide and occasionally loses the trail. What can I do to help her search closer to the check? It's almost like she is so excited she searches so fast.

Also, I am going to be getting a 2 yr old male that is running very well. Can't wait to get him here. I'd like to pack the two together but don't know quite how to go about it. How should I introduce them to running together, harking, etc.? I've always raised puppies so getting a running dog is new to me. Any suggestions would sure help. Thanks in advance.

Solo Solo Solo and when you use a "training" hound make sure they have the traits you want the young hound to learn. Some hounds are naturaly wide swingers..... but solo time and getting her to account for her own track would be my best advise.

No expert here but I do know if she is gettging too loose in the check by herself you probably don't need to run her under presure it it will get worse. If you have been running her in the kind of heat and dry conditions we have here there are a lot of good grown dogs that can't do a great job right now. If the weather improves solo her and see how she does.

I'm no expert. But, something I have done when soloing a young hound is to try to stay up with the dog and when there is a check I try to get as close to the point of loss as possible. I'll stand in that spot and if the dog starts getting too far away from the check I'll call it back. This works a lot easier in the winter when the cover isn't thick. Also in the snow you can usually see the rabbit tracks and help the dog out to pick the check. This seems to help but it takes some effort. The easier option is to have a good pup trainer dog that isn't too fast and works a close check.

sounds like expert advise to me....

In my past experience she is what she is,you may not want here that but I think thats the way it is.Preasure can do it sometimes and may help a little with age, but some things dont change alot. Al
