Seizure
I was running last night and my Male dog (Jabo) out of no where lost a rabbit in the check came back out and had a seizure right in front of me only lasted about 1 min. or so. I was just wanting to know fi anyone else is dealing with this and what i should do about running him again. It wasnt that hot last night really nice and cool and wind was nice to. Just thought that i would ask what other beaglers do when a dog starts to have one thanks Matt (MVM)

Re: Seizure
I had a cocker spaniel that had seiziers so I took him to the vet and they observed him for one nighrt and put him on Penobarbital. Never had another one. I think when I first called the vet about it they said to watch and see if he had any more and try to figure out what might be causing it. He did continue to have about one every day or so, so they kept him one day to observe him and then put him on the meds. He was getting older and they figured it was his age.

Re: Seizure
i had a very beautiful young male , just a awsome dog to look at was comming on as a rabbit hound as well. when he got about 1.5 years old he started with seizures. the moment he would get excited he would start shaking his head violently and the next thing he was on the ground jerking and twitching ,eyes rolled back into his head and foaming at the mouth. it would last for about a 30 to 60 seconds but he was drained after that. it never got any better. take him out of kennel by the time you were putting him in the dog box he was seizing. i had him put to sleep. he was never any good to hunt anymore and would never want someone to breed him and i cant see giving a hound meds for the rest of his life.
Re: Seizure
I had a female that at the age of around 6 yrs old was running in a trial that day it got very hot and she got over heated badly after that day she started having problems thought it was seizesrs. gave here to freind for just a pup trainer. turns out she was having low blood sugar issues . he started giving her a slice of bread with karo syrup before running her and did not have any problems untill the day she passed on.which personally i started having sugar problems in my mid fortys. i had one inssue when my sugar got to low and i started shaking and jerking all over like she would do. It is not a good feeling. she had been bred a number of times and never had any problems with offspring later in time.It must have been the shock of overheating her that day.Hope the info is helpful.Good luck with your dog.

Re: Seizure
My male is on meds for seizures hes going on 8 years old. His started a year after he had a heat stroke when he was 6 years old. When he had his spells he just started staggering and did`t have any control over his mussals or dided know you we had to hold him for about a couple mins. and then he would come out of it and be back to his old self so took him to the vet and she put him on meds now twice a day and he`s fine no more seizures he does get tired alot fast then my other dogs but i think thats old age we all do lol lol.
