Frontline Plus Guys. Step in here

Post by Joeyman »

Ok I picked up a box of Frontline Plus. cost me $43 for one box. I Picked up the kind that treats up to 132lbs of dog. I have 5 dogs. Roughly 22lbs each I got one that wieghs 18lbs little dog. Maybe another that is right at 20lbs. So I"m going to draw up the liquid in a syringe and divide per 5 dogs

What I don't understand is with the amount of liquid for the big dog dosage is it a more powerful strength? or more amount of liquid. Lets say I would of bought the kind for small dogs that treats 20lbs of dog per little packet. Is it the same amount of liquid as the big dog dosage only less strength? and with me dividing the big dog dosage is it just as effective as the small dog dosage?

This way for $43 dollars I can treat 5 dogs for 3 months. That is much easier on a guy. What are your thoughts on this?

I always put 1 cc on my larger dogs and 3/4 cc on my smaller ones..Don't think theres any difference in the strength of the packets, just more of it in the packets for larger dogs.

the dosage of fipronil is always the same, there is just more product
here is from thier website on dosages for sized animals.

How this product should be used:
Use Frontline Plus for Dogs (fipronil 9.8% and S-methoprene 8.8%) on dogs and puppies 8 weeks or older. Frontline Plus for Dogs is available as 0.67 ml applicators for use on dogs and puppies up to 22 lbs, 1.34 ml applicators for dogs 23-44 lbs, 2.68 ml applicators for dogs 45-88 lbs and 4.02 ml applicators for dogs 89-132 lbs. Wait 24 hours to fully dry before swimming or bathing. Do not reapply for 30 days.

4.02divided by 5=0.8 ml(cc) which is about perfect for all your weights described
alot of what they are saying is bullsheet anyway--by reading thier chart they say that a 22lb dog get half as much as a 23lb dog---one pound difference get double the dose--come on--also says that this same dose is good for a dog twice its size--haha.really think so

i have had several articles in my old computer that animal testing done on 16 dogs-4 groups of four dogs-ages 4 months to 5 years old were given 5 times the dose and there was only some skin irratation at the application site
just googl fipronil animal testings and find several--some say its great some say its harmful--i am sure they work for other companies than merial

there is a product out that I have used for 3 years now that is way cheaper and works just as good and can be used in 2 different applications. Its called Bayer tree and shrub and has the same ingredient as frontline. It runs about 13 bucks for a bottle and will last a full flea season.I buy a bottle once a year and treat about 20 hounds a year beagles and walker hounds. It works great.I just fill a 3 cc syringe without the needle and run down the back of the neck to the tail.It can also be mixed with water in accordance with direction to spray kennel and living quarters. If you decide to try this you can find it at most hardware stores in the garden section.Make sure to get the bottle without the fertilizer in it .they make this in a combo with fertilizer but do not use this type.I had the worst flea problem ever a couple years back and this stuff did the trick and treated kennels way cheaper than frontline.I get mine at Lowes.

One cc per dog down the back on frontline plus. I buy for the big dogs and divide it out. Works great.

Yea the strength is the same no matter the size of the dog the dosage is whats important with htat being said you cant overdose with it if you give to much its just wasted i like putting it in several places on my dogs because the flea has to get in it before it works

When you apply FRONTLINE, fipronil, the active ingredient, is stored in the oil glands under your pet's skin. It is then distributed continuously to the skin and hair of your pet through the hair follicles.

FRONTLINE® Plus For Dogscontains fipronil and the insect growth regulator (IGR) (S)-methoprene. Insect growth regulators interrupt or inhibit the life cycle of a pest. Flea eggs and flea larvae that are exposed to (IGR) (S)-methoprene will never develop into the adult jumping, biting and (most important) reproducing fleas. FRONTLINE® Plus effectively targets all stages of fleas. Fipronil collects in the oils of the skin and hair follicles, and continues to be released from hair follicles onto the skin and coat, resulting in long-lasting activity against fleas and ticks.
You apply frontline behind the neck so the dog can't lick it. It goes into the dogs system and is spread through out the body and collects in the oils and hair follicles to kill the fleas and ticks.

Going to put some on my dogs tomorrow. Will use only 0.7 cc on my 12 wk old pup. Talked to my vet and he said that is the dose I need to use on my new pup.

For you guys with a lot of hounds, or to split with a buddy, you have to check this out!! You can treat a dog for WAAYYYYY less than frontline. I just ordered the Termidor, fleas aren't bad here, so I think I will skip the methoprene.

It is the same ingredients as Frontline, to make it Frontline Plus, add the methoprene.

From another site

looking at the active ingredient-frontline fipronil is 9.9%fipronil and 8%methroprene
i buy this stuff whick is 9.1%fipronil--almost exactly the same amount and its active ingredient is fipronil--its 20 ounces which can last many dogs many months for a couple years
http://www.pestproductsonline.com/produ ... -14-0.html

this is the methroprene i use-its only 1.2% so i use a little extra
