I have a 5 month old tri-color male whose is barking on track. The only problem is when the rabbit turns he can't make the check and he keeps barking after over running track. He seems to be pretty mouthy. I am sure alot of you have trained more pups then me and i was wondering if this is normal? Will he grow out of this or will he get worse? What is the best thing I can do for him? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.

Jeremy relax! The pup,I said pup is only 5 months old.Try to run him with a slow,straight dog.

Just a pup. He should settle down. dont worry let him figure it out.

Yep,hang in there.It only gets better.I started my pup last spring and this was his first hunting season under the gun and I have to tell you,I am new at this training stuff too.I had all your worries too,but I watched his progress and it was all good.I took him out every chance I could and I can start hunting as soon as I walk out the front door.He and I both learned together.I learned to be patient and figured out that he had a better nose then me.I just let him figure things out for himself and he didn't dissapoint me.I have some mighty tricky rabbits around here but my little hunting buddy is learning how to pick up on their tricks faster and faster.
This is so much fun that I just bought a little female to run with him next year.I can't wait to hear them open up together.There will be new challenges but heck,that's what it is all about just don't forget to have fun and enjoy the beauty of the fields and woods.Your little hunting buddy will do the rest.

I think he is too young yet to tell if he is going to be a mouthy hound. I think he is so excited about being out there that he is barking too much. Run him a little longer and after he tires a bit I think he will slow down with the mouth. Also, when he gets older he will get rid of the puppy stuff and be more serious. I had a pup do the same thing until he was about 7 months old and I had the same worries but he stopped.
If he don't work out I know where you can get another pup real cheap.
