Satsuma Hounds

Anyone ever seen Satsuma hounds run.Speed,size?

I have owned a couple of full satsuma hounds and have young dogs now that have plenty of Satsuma in them.As with most lines speed, size and other qualities can vary according to what individual hounds they go back to.All the ones I have seen have great hunt and good speed.
Most of the ones that I have seen tend to be very houndy with good conformation.
The founder of the line runs Southern Large pack so they are bred with that in mind.Tim Tron in Ohio has a FC male that is part Satsuma and is supposed to be very nice.Joey Herring in Richton ,Ms has a kennel full of them.He also has a couple of very nice stud dogs that are producing well.

i have a satsuma male and i think he's a nice hound i will trail him this
spring. every line of dog is diffrent there are some that i just dont like
but they have product some good hounds.i like the satsuma line and
will try to breed and carry on that line.

The Satsuma line of hounds in owned by Mel Faust of Louisiana. I believe the line was started from Green Mountain and Champlain Bucky hare bloodlines among others. These are fast, run to catch type hounds. Mel also has a training grounds here in Maine to keep his hounds in top shape during the hot summer months. He's had great success finishing hounds in AKC trials, and considering that he only keeps lemon and white hounds, and no males larger than 13", I find it remarkable. When you beat one of Mel's hounds in a trial, you've accomplished something.

I seem to remember years ago, of a little Patch blood being thrown in there. There's not many you can go to to keep lemon hounds, without bring in colour, who knows, the Patches may have even helped him with their hunt also. I've heard many good reports on Mel's hounds

I don't doubt that for a moment Patch, but never heard him mention it. Mel has a very low tolerance for anything that doesn't meet his standards so he's been able to develop a fairly pure strain. He's always looking for new lemon & white bloodlines to add to his strain but he's very hard to please unless a hound is extremely good. Up our way we know Mel's back in town when we see a yellow dog at a trial!

I HAVE SOME OF THE SATSUMA BLOOD IN MY KENNEL.BY FAR THE BEST I HAVE EVER OWEND. VERY HARD HUNTER WITH A TON OR SPEED .I STARTED TRIALING TWO YEARS A GO WITH MY SATSUMA HOUND. AND LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF IT.I LIVE IN NORTH MISSISSIPPI.ALL MY HUNTING BUDDIES CAN WAIT TO GET SOME PUP FROM THE SATSUMA LINE.
