How's running been?

I was just wondering how the running has been for my fellow beaglers the last couple of days. I have been having splotchy running at best. Yesterday was really rough. Hard to keep a rabbit going in the middle of the day.

We went last night and running was great! The hounds pounded 5 hours good wide running. Finally got out of there about 1 am by leading them out. I love the warm weather so we can run at night. No yote problems either made it better. We saw the first 2 we ran before it was dark, seen 30 or so deer but the pups we took didn't run any so that was another good thing. Running during the day has been a little spotty depending on where we go and the time of day, but the rabbits are bunching up good now.

WE'VE BEEN POUNDING!!! We rolled in the rain at a competition last Saturday, the dogs were running wide open, I wouldn't doubt if a couple grew wings and were flying after that rabbit! I had 4 out Wednesday around 4 o'clock, two 8 month old pups and 2 adult females. One female struck one off the leash and they pounded that big fat rabbit for 2 hours solid, our pups are looking better each time out. We had a female and our female 8 month old pup out this morning before church. They got one up, they didn't run it as well as earlier in the week, but they ran good. We saw one line and the pup was first through, she's looking real good.

Haven't been out much, but will be soloing my two year old a little bit this week. I love watching him solo a rabbit.

Ran Sat morn and would not have given you 10 dollars for all three on the ground the first hour. Last hour and half big difference with some nice running.
Going to try it again tonight and see how it goes. Good running to all.

Well then they were full of it! They did do a nice job after the lack of effort and little bits of craziness.

I ran Saturday around mid-day and had three young dogs out and I wouldn't have given $50 for the pack. I saw 3 different rabbits and put the dogs on them and they couldn't do a thing with them. They acted like a rabbit had never crossed where I put them then the dogs jumped one on their own and did a real good job on it but where I was running was close to some houses and a couple of roads and yes after 25 minutes of running the rabbit headed across one of the roads and I had to head them off and that was the end of my running.

Went again today and had a good race right on the outside of my training pen,I think an ol buck rabbit is trying to get to the does in the pen but anyway jumped him and ran him good for about 30 minutes or so before they lossed him and jumped him again a few minutes later and ran em for about another 30 minutes or so.Saw the rabbit 5 times and he was getting clever started hitting the path and running down 40 yards and ducking in but the dogs stayed with him till he busted a grown up field and was draggin the pack to the road so I had to stop the dogs. That is the first time I have had to do that but I guess the pressure was on and he was gett out of dodge!

I have been having below average running. Yesterday evening the dogs started out very splotchy but got it together as the night went on. They kept the rabbit going but were not punishing him like I know they can. It is a little dry here and it may not be helping me. It is teaching the young dogs that I'm running some patience.

Running was real good yesterday. Dogs locked on them and really pushed them, even had a couple of good solo runs from two different dogs. After about an hour and a half of good running the rabbits wanted to cross the road so I caught my dogs and headed home.
