A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
ok so all this pure or what ever you say talk has got me thinking about some stuff. i have been learning a lot about the patch breeding and beagles in general for the past year now and just thought of this. i feel that the patch beagles are almost like there own breed sometimes. it has been a proven family of hounds on paper for so long with minimal outcrosses. it is sort of like when the treeing walker and bluetick coonhounds became known as there own seperate breeds. they were all derived from the english foxhounds with some outcrosses here and there. then they were selectively bred for color. but they still all do the same thing and mainly chase the same game. so whos on board for a new breed...the Patch Hound  at least it would be more pure bred than the puggle or labradoodle
the only downfall might be we would have to start a new trial system for the patch hounds since they would not be just beagles anymore. well heck maybe we could up the size limit a tad bit too
so what do you patch breeders and owners think any ideas? this may be fun or at least get some good laughs.
they hate us bad enough now lol ...they are just not use to seeing pedigrees of the same dogs from the same family in it ,,lined up for yrs on end ,,it blows their mind . now here you go stirring the pot again.lol. ................
Wrong John Come run with me.
Dave t hats a good idea,I don`t think there should be any limit on size. If the little dogs cain`t run with the big dogs, keep m on the porch. If the big dogs cain`t out run the little dogs, just shoot the darn things.
COLOR,are you serious??????????????
I cringe everytime a Patch post comes up, there will always be the Patch haters and nay sayers, which usually have never owned one, but are the experts about them.
We keep the Patch LINE going because of the type of hound they are, hunt, desire, stamina, etc.
We keep the Patch name not for our own glory or recognition but in honor and out of respect for a great houndsman Willet Randall.
Thats right, Willet Randall, NOT FRANK WILLET like some other expert called him in another post.
For us Patch guys, they are already in a class by themselves, so no need for calling them anything else but Patch beagles.
I can only hope that I'm making the right decisions in selection and breeding, to pass on the Patch line for the next generation to enjoy in honor of Willet.
preacher, what do you mean? i am not trying to stir any pots .....well i guess maybe a little bit but it is all in good fun and so we can all get a big smile when we run them next.
swampman, i think we all cringe. but for some reason only known by us it just sucks you in doesnt it.
i think big mike 50 posted there needs to be a bumper sticker saying; its a patch thing you wouldnt understand.
ok now instead of a different breed, what about a patch owners and breeders association?
i know, i sure enjoyed my 2 hr run this morn ,with my hounds ....i wont count the 30 minute and the 45 mintue runs before that one and then it started raining on me grrrr ,, i had to tone the and then light bump them to get them to leave that rabbit alone so i could go home as i aint been feeling great and didnt want to get soaked. they didnt seem to mind.

I've been wrong alot in my life. My dogs have right much patch in them. I am not a Patch Hater, but sometimes it seems that patch owners do alot of bashing their ownselves.
All this patch stuff. I have owned many patches. If someone could show me one superior patch hound that was better than a superior hound of another breed, perhaps I could accept them as something to be pursued. However, I have never seen it. It would seem that patch purists are members of a stubbornly persistent elitism. Clinging to "purity" eventually leads to dilution of all. Other than color, they have little to offer over any other breed, imo. There are good and there are bad, just like any other breed. And white gets old after a while.
I have often thought about out crossing to Satsma and a few others just to see if I might improve line control and check work but I just can't bring myself to do it . I will stick to the original program that MR. Randall started best to the best and DO NOT breed the rest give them away with out pappers. Don't get me wrong I have seen some good outcross on the patch line but why fix what isn't broken . As far as color I just don't want any Tricolor in my line I like the white with the red ticking and lemon and white. My Truck is even white and starting to get some red ticking RUST.
Maybe we should consider having each and every bloodline someone starts be it's own breed..............that way we could really put some separation between ourselves by being in our own little groups of beaglers.
It's not like "Patch" is the second coming of Christ people............it's a line of dogs.
I do wonder how many of you guys also own jeeps though.

bunny, yep it could be just like the coonhunting world when every body has their favorite color and breed. but they all do the same thing and compete against each other no matter what size.
Bunny said,"It's not like "Patch" is the second coming of Christ people". Not if you talk to patch people. This Randal character was a loner who lived in the woods and preached a certain philosophy that would save the beagle world, or the dog world, or some world. If not a Christ like figure, at least a prophet, eh? (come on, I kid the patchies)
Bucks,
Yes, there are good and bad, and the Patch guys I know, don't breed the bad.
NCPatch, I also have a large, one ton, white truck.
Dave, I already belong to HOG, why not POG!
