Gay Dog???
Alright, here's another question for you guys. Most males will breed any female that you tell them to, sometimes the female isn't even in heat and some males will breed them. We have a super good male here, he's a triple champion, but we can't get him to breed. We raised one litter off of him last year, but we had to force him to breed the female. She had the puppies a week earlier than expected, so he may have bred her earlier while they were kenneled together. We are trying the breed the same female to him again, she just stopped bleeding and is really "in heat" now. I have tried to force him to breed her again. The female is terrible to get bred, she screams the entire time and will stand for him but only does it for a couple seconds before freaking out, and the male won't breed her. He doesn't even get excited. He just licks her a couple times until there's nothing left to lick, and then just walks away with no interest in her whatsoever. He is an extremely relaxed dog, and doesn't get worked up until he goes hunting. Is there anything I can do to excite him? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, Hunter Hall

If you know someone in your area that is familar with artificial insemination that may be the way to go.

I agree with jmooore, if you want to insure a breeding I'd do an AI on her. It costs a little bit of money, but you can increase your odds to getting a litter out of her. Good luck!

First, I have no idea how you force a male to breed a bitch.
Have you tried your bitch with another male. Some bitches don't follow the usual pattern of "wait until 10 days after blood and they will be ready". It's not guarnateed that they will stay acceptable for seven days, and some don't smell right for non agressive breeders. There are a lot of uncertainties when owning a stud dog.
If she is "screaming" she probably isn't ready. I have seen them "scream" after the tie, but usually that ends once they have been bred and on the second tie the are calm.
I sent a bitch that was in heat to a beagle buddies to have her bred to his stud. He tried unsucessfully to get her bred. He told me several times that she wouldn't stand and like your description of your bitch she fought him off and tried to bite if he attempted to hold her.
I picked her up and on the way home I picked up a male dog that I liked that I had given to another beagler.
When I got home, I held her mouth so she couldn't bite and supported her abdomen with the other hand. This male, who was very aggressive, mounted her, and as soon as he attempted to breed her she was acceptable. She flagged her tail and soon he had a tie. The next day I put her in with the male again and he made the tie with no assistance.
Later I found out that the first male that was tried has yet to breed a bitch. Just as the dog you described he is not very aggressive making it almost impossible to help, and has not been able to make the tie on several different bitches.
Good luck.

Re: Gay Dog???
Thanks for the suggestions. I came back the house today after registered cast to pick up Joker for champions. When I got out of the truck I heard Sue let out a yipe. I went over to the kennel to see what the deal was and they had just untied. Joker was cleaning himself up and I picked her up to take a look and she had definitely just been bred. Looks like he isn't gay after all!

Some males won't perform in front of people and some won't even show interest in a female if she isn't ready to breed. Some females also stand way before their eggs are down and ready to be fertilized.
