A general forum for the discussion of hunting with beagles, guns, clothing and other equipment and just talking dawgs! (Tall tales on hunting allowed, but remember, first liar doesn't stand a chance)
Gundog? Trial dog? or just a yard buddy that was a great companion..
one catch you have actually had to have hunted with or seen the dog etc...not hear say..but say what ya seen
No bashing..just looking to hear some names of dogs that deserve some recognition. keep it positive!
i normally wouldnt answer this truthfully cause i hate when people say there own dog,but i think rhoades royal buck was the best ive seen, but he had flaws like all dogs.i have a female out of him that i think is gonna be better than him though. better watch out next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!fastest dog i have seen
good dogs run on good days, great dogs run when u take them out
FC Owlkill Tracker Clyde (Cylde) (The Boss Dog in our kennel)
FC RD's Blackie (maybe IFC?) (Stronger and stronger as the day moved on)
FC Honey Hollow's Miss Liberty (a method for checking second to none)
FC Little Creek Katie ( miss consistency, as solid a hound as I have ever watched run)
FC Adirondack Mountain Keno (huge snow nose, could lock on a track and drive no matter what his packmates were doing)
FC Fairman's Alberta Scamp( steady, steady, steady, great line control, even when packmates were running rough)
FC Thornhill's Rabbit Tune Singer (could hold a rabbit line all day long at a fast pace)
IFC Starlake Autumn Shadow (out of Jig's big power and even bigger control, watched him at pittstown at 12 years old, made the pack look silly)
Owlkill Tracker Stubby (huge nose, shot many hare in front of him.)
FC Owlkill Tracker Bonnie (extreme toughness) The best dog I have personally owned.
Just a few of the good ones I witnessed run. -Ralph Harrington
On one paticular day, I watched and listened to Crabtrees dog Candy run a hare all by herself. The race lasted about an hour and a little more. She was the real deal that day. At the same time, my Rip female and Ol Reject himself were putting it on a diffrent hare. Was a great day.
I had a big ARHA reg. red male for 9 years until he passed. In his prime he was and still is the hardest hunting dog I have ever witnessed. He was a dumb hunter and
exploded into every brush pile like there where 6 rabbits in it. He would do this all day and every day. He could be a little rough for my liking at times, but when run in
and in top shape could run a rabbit like he was looking at it! I had seen him many days take a race from some decent hounds and when the rabbit was shot it was him running
alone. Not that the other hounds where slow, it was his control and speed when the conditions were good. He had a horn bawl that could be heard in any pack and we still
have young hounds from him today. He was too big and not pretty, but gave 110% every day all day. He was a house dog until he ran his first rabbit at 18 months. I doesn't
take the good ones long to put it together.
Two visions of two different dogs and exact situations stick in my mind, littermates....both of their lives ended way too early
Green Bay Jifka (RIP)....watched her run a rabbit several yards down a blacktop road and turn it down the ditch and never miss a beat with the pack chasing her...this was in the middle of the summer.
Bush's Chappy (RIP)....watched a rabbit double back and he was running it at full speed and spun around and ran the double back like it was a straight track, he made it look easy. Chappy was also probably one of the most happy and personable beagles I have ever been around....can still hear the never ending CHOP, CHOP, CHOP, CHOP drowning out the rest of the pack.
Field Trialing Wise....FC Durham's Lilly....always with the pack, rarely made mistakes, check dog extreme
FC Green Bay Nemasket Singer
FWR Blue Boy's Lightfoot
Best two dogs i have ever seen are Turbo Super Sport, and Turbo Powered By Turbo...I had a chance to run these two littermate brothers together when John Queen and I met up one day. These two ran like they where leashed together; side by side on the same track for about 4 hours.
One of my favorite dogs to watch right now is my friends female Roxy (reggie female). She is an explosive little jump female that barks every breath and is always in ever race. She isn't fast, but man can she make a pack look good. She hasn't had a break in LP hunts yet, but its only a matter of time.

A grade female...that I wish I had never seen because I will not ever be happy until I get a dog that HUNTS and JUMPS rabbits like she did. Didn't care for how she ran a track most days but if you saw her on a good day she'd make you a believer.
