I would like to know more about Jigs specifically. I know he reproduced well and have a male that is heavy Jigs bred. But how did Jigs himself perform in the field? He does not seem to get much publicity and attention anymore. What intriques me is who he is out of, Adirondack Bobby (another old hound not spoke about much) and Branko's Close Call Girl (Dingus and Anna's Ann I believe). So for any closet fans of this old stuff let me hear about it.

I don't have much to add except that i know a couple old timmers who have nothing but jigs.They love that line and it seems to breed well with most crosses. The out crosses i have seen have all been branko and turbo. I plan on watching this thread because i would like to know the samething you are asking.

I also have a male that is heavy Jigs bred, every thing I have goes back to Jigs but one female and she has a little of it. I believe his owner once told me he won his first large pack trial at 10 months old. and had enough points to finish two or three times when he quit running him. I love the Jigs blood!

Who was his owner?

All the Jigs dogs I've seen have big noses and good foot and bird dog hunt.

His owner was Ray Morell from Canada

Was Jigs heavily promoted? Was he always in Canada?

According to an old stud ad in Better Beagling magazine---He was a 13" hound,naturally straight and threw most pups that were naturally straight.He was Central Ontario Hare Assoc. sire of the year in 1987 and 88,Purina All Canada sire of the year 1988,Better BeaglingTop Living sire 88 and B.B. top Sire list [tied for 3'rd 1989].

A few outstanding hounds out of him were I.F.C. Armando's Northern Tracker,I.F.C. Armando's Little Conman,F.T.C.H. Armando's Zachary,F.T.C. H. Armando's Hawkeye,I.F.C. Armando's Tasha,F.C. Salt River Lucy.His littermate brother was F.T.C.H. The Elm's English Bobby and Jigs and Branko's Jack of all trades were half brothers both being out of Branko's Close Call Girl.

I was told by some old timers that Jigs could run in any condition and that he was very consistant and low maintenance. I was told that he was seen tracking rabbits down gravel roads without a problem when the other dogs had no clue there was even scent on the ground. I like the Jigs breeding and try to keep some of it in my kennel. There are a lot of big name dogs now that go back to Jigs.

Another hound that died very young sired by Jigs was FTC Milt's Queon. I heard that he was extremely talented. I think Queon is the sire of Argentevil Striker (spelling?) I've always admired the Adirondack Bobby dog's reputation. I think Branko's Copper Boy dam was by Bobby & as Shady Grove stated Jig's dam was Close Call Girl ( Dingus X Anna's Ann).

Bob, everything I have in my kennel, goes back to Elms. They are out of son's or grandson's of Ole Bad Cliff. I started with this line of dogs and have stuck with it. What I've seen out of them they do hunt bird dog style, like what was posted above. I'm not blind on any line of dogs, it's just what has satisfied me over the years. Here is a grandson of Cliff and his daughter of his on a bad snow day. Rneil and his dad came down and ran with me this day and Rod took this picture.

My favorite thing in working with beagles is starting pups and the last 6 pups I tried to start were complete absolute boneyard culls. So I am going to try to breed my own, I never have much before but the common denominator in all the culls I had was they were outcrossed and all mixxed up best to best for generations.I want to breed only linebred dogs that I would feed and hunt myself. So I know like Jigs stuff but have found it lacking in the "jump" dept in hunting. I dont really care too much for bird dogging, I prefer dozers. I had not known Jig's pedigree and was interested to find he was stamped by Dingus and Anna's Ann. I have heard and read all the good things about Dingus but take a look at how linebred Anna's Ann was. Just looking at the ped she seems to be the perfect foundation bitch and we all know how that turned out.

I find this thread very interesting also. and I was wondering out of the guy's who have posted if any of you stud line breed jiggs, dingus, bobby stuff out or sell pups from time to time? I have a female that is this stuff on top and ninja shaker on the bottom, and I'm just getting started myself. Been told that these dogs are the best way to go (the top breeding). The Grand father to my female is Gulf brooke merl who is relatated to mt.zion dogs and surestart spencer. Any way keep the info coming Thanks.

It would be very hard to breed to anything that goes back to branko's and it be an outcross. Jack was jigs half brother and copper boy's father was call girls brother. So almost anything that you take a jigs bred dog to that goes to branko is not an outcross

The tightest line bred jigs male there is around is owned by RDN61 on this thread
