lets say its out of a major line and is an awesome dog that dominates the trials, EXCEPT it has a major flaw such as trash running on ocassion or shyness that passes on in some pups. would you take the chance and breed to this?

one good thing about a poll. "guests" cant vote, cause you go to have a real username to vote . im serious here, dont worry, no bloodlines were mentioned. im talking dogs in general. if someone feels guilty, then they must be.

But guests can go back in and log in ......... dummy.

go for it...genius. no argueing or name calling here. just make your vote and if you like, explain your vote. keep it civil. can everyone handle that? no ones getting picked on, so no whining.

ok, ok, ok, first of all, if it were a physical fault........."NO"!...... if this particular hound has a problem with mouthing off line, or skirting, or maybe trash running, yes I would, providing the bloodline is of quality stock.
my feelings on most flaw problems started in training and not in breeding

i think if i had an awsome dog, out of some top notch bloodlines, that was dominating in the feild and the only real fault was running off game a time or two, I wouldnt think twice about breeding it. it might be differnt if the dog couldnt be broke off the trash, but i dont think that is the dog you were describing in your question because it would be hard to dominate in the feild if you were running trash. nice answer and explanation. thats what i want. i want to see everyones thinking on this. my answer would be no (of course). my feelings are if you breed shy (or trash) you will get shy (or trash) in your pups. ive seen that enough to know it can happen. not always, but enough of a chance to keep me away.

ryan - i would guess if you "ocassionally" run trash, that means not broke. thats what i meant for my poll. broke to me means NO trash. None.

If he is a cheatin, cutting, skirting hound, NO I would not. But this type should not be a winner in the trials (PP). I can tolerate a little trash running, but not shyness or physical faults.

Well, I would say that if are breeding two hounds together that didn't have any faults, I would want a couple pups!

I have a female that will hunt all day and night if you let her and she has good tongue,she is not going to mouth off line or skirt or anyother undesirable things BUT she is very shy, afraid of stang dogs, people any thing scares her.
now you would get rid of her??? NOT SO FAST!! number one she has excellent bloodline two she is a fenominal hunting hound when she's with the hounds she's used to three she did not have any human contact other than getting her du claws cut and getting her shots and all the other unpleasantrys................ I WOULD BE SHY TOO..........her puppies will start social training their second week of life.

It is hard enough to get good dogs when you breed good dogs. I don't want to throw in a trait that I don't want just in the hope of getting one good dog. Say it is shyness. What if the best rabbit dog in the litter has that fault and the rest are average hunting dogs? It has been a waste of time. Brian, It would be a safe bet to say that is why you see so many of some lines for sale. People looking to add to their lines and taking from it instead. Find what you like and stick with it. If you are going to an outcross you better be positive it is for the better.

I did not know you could bred a dog that would produce trash proof. I know of dogs that were born trash proof and every pup from that sire has had to
be broken from running trash.Never heard of trash proof breeding that was a sure thing even though I have heard dogs that never ran trash.

trash proofing as you call it isnt a sure thing, but if you have a 5 year old that has never ran trash or that passed "trash breaking 101" as a pup and no trouble and is 5 years old, then you can say you have a trash broke (or free) dog. a lot more so than ones that 2 or 3 times a year run trash their whole life. which would you rather breed to? i believe that in many cases trash running is genetic. so i would not want to chance that in a breeding. like rockbottom said: its hard to get good dogs when you breed good dogs, why add to the trouble with throwing in a known fault of the line you are breeding?
