in a nut shell Don Bramlett of KY has been breeding this line since the late 70's. most of the stuff goes back to the "smith" hounds. Smiths mingo mike and smiths miss cocoa were in a lot of the crosses. hes line bred the whole time with very few outcrosses. black and tan and solid red (like the dog in my avatar) are the most dominant colors in the pure stuff. a very general description of the line would say they are upper medium speed, very nice line control, 15" variety, LOUD bawl mouths, plenty of hunt and hustle and better than average nose. dons done a couple of interviews in the past for the various beagle mags. read them or give him a call. or email me if you got any questions. ive had this line for 7 or 8 years and other than don himself, i would guess i have the most bramlett stock around. very top notch gun dogs that will do fine in the trials. back in the late 90's they tore em up in ARHA LP. now they are more suited for PP as it seems (to me) LP has gotten a bit more wild.

i have not ever, but a buddy has ran a few on hare on trips up north. said they switched over and did a good job. chris miller has one of mine in NH and thats all he runs (i believe). bramlett dogs may be a step slower than most "hare bred" lines but if raised and trained on hare, i would guess they would be fine. they have the nose power. good consistant dogs. one of the few well known lines that are still pretty pure and not watered down thru a lot of outcrossing.
