Garmin Astro Range???

Post by DIXIEDOG »

What type of range are you getting out of your Garmin gps tracking units? One of mine drops off at approx 600 yds and the other at approx 680 yds, this is on flat ground with some moderate tree cover, for comparison my still Tracker picked up for 1/4 of a mile after that so I turned around and headed back. Is that range pretty normal for the Garmin? Is there any added range if you switch the channel you are using to a higher or lower number?

Are you using the stock antenna for that range?

Yup Straight out of the box...3 second refresh rate on settings....I Actually got over a mile in the hills around Coshocton Ohio this last year also...2 DC 30 Collars.
had problems the First time I used it but reset everything and went by the book Followed it step by Step and the only problem I have EVER had was lost reception to a collar one day in a hollow during a Thunderstorm but hit reset and was back on track in less than a minute.....

that is not normal. i live se ohio and get around 2 miles with stock antenna and have got 5 to 6 miles with the long range antenna. it is pretty hilly were i hunt and even in the most hilly terrain you should get 1 to 2 miles and if it fairly flat were you live 2 to 3 miles should be easy. one good tip is always try to get as high as you can.
