Garmin Astro Problems

I just bought a Garmin Astro last weekend and I got to try it out today, I'm more than a little disappointed in the unit. 1 collar reads better than the other it at least shows the right direction but the distance is off when the dog is 10 feet away the collar reads anywhere from Near to 18 yds away

The other collar is reading the wrong distance and direction
I have removed and retaught each of these collars twice thinking I may have messed up but it made no improvement. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? As it sits now my old Tracker Maxima Complete has it all day long over this Garmin GPS tracking unit

Run the Garmin webupdater. That should put the most recent updates on the Unit and you'll need to update collars also. Should correct it.

I just ran the Webupdater for the unit and each of the collars. I'll see what it does tomorrow, I hope it takes care of it.

What do you mean by tweek with them all the time? If I have to mess around with these things all the time or can't rely on them to be right I'll just keep using my Tracker Maxima Complete with Supra-lite collars, it only let me down once when a collar battery was defective and flat out died with less than 10 hrs on it

I think I may have found my problem

I checked for updates again but had the most recent version in my receiver and collars so I went outside to try them out. Same thing it was giving me the wrong direction so I deleted both of the collars again and added them back in, everything was good to go. Initially when I set everything up I did it in my Lazyboy recliner in the house

I think that although the unit said it had a satellite lock with everything it's possible that it wasn't the best signal. Now when both collars report a distance within 1 yard of each other and the correct direction. I'll know for sure when I test them in the woods this weekend, I'm just going to make sure they have the Tracker collars on too, a little insurance policy never hurts.

In the directions, it should say that if the dogs are under 10 feet from you, the GPS will give you an accurate direction, but a wrong distance. I don't know why this is, but that is how mine works. Other then that, I think it is probally one of the best investments I have made. No problems, and it has saved me a lot of worrying.

We used the Garmin tracking system on our Hare trip this year. Loved it!!!!
I've owned Wildlife , Tracker and Icom in the past. The Garmin made the other systems look like a toy. JMO
