Ive never paid for the really high end stuff, but of everything I have fed Blackgold was the best. I let the price force me away, and dont feed it anymore, and have fed Pride for 2 years now. I like pride pretty good. Pride, Sportmix, Diamond, and Blackgold are all good choices in my opinion.

I have fed alot of feeds. Purina Pro Plan is by far the best. I fed both the Adult and Performance when it was cheaper. Adult worked just as well.

I am feeding SportsMix right now just due to price but it doesnt compare to Pro Plan. If your running hard feed them a little extra and Pro Plan will put the muscle on them.

Just what I have seen.

I'll stick with the Black Gold in the Blue bag.

You asked for the Best regardless of price - Its probably "EVO". It might have too high of a protein content for pups though. IMO - Purina dog chow is not only a bad food, its worse than Purina Pro Plan - which is much more expensive than Dog Chow & is itself mostly corn based.

The best feeds that I have seen would be Purina Pro Plan, or what I feed is Diamond Naturals Chicken and Rice! I have been feeding it for sometime now and couldn't ask for a better feed. It's about $30 for 40# at tractor supply stores, which isn't that bad.

Evo Red Meat formula is the best food I've ever used but at over $100 a month to feed 4 beagles it's outta my price range   I fed Eagle pack Power formula with no loss of performance but slighty more stool then I wasn't able to get it consistently, the only local retailer I found only stocked 1 bag at a time and struggled to keep it in stock  Now I buy Diamond Hi Energy from Tractor Supply, the dogs still look great and have lots of energy and the best part is price I pay $23.99 for 50 lbs of feed that my dogs like and they look great on

the best hands down is evo red meat. i used it over the summer it IS the best. purina dog chow is nothing but corn and filler. same as pro plan and purina one and the rest in that category. pro plan is deceiving because it list a meat source first but it is weighed before cooked and dried out. pro plan and purina one is good food compared to dog chow and ol roy but it is not the best. right now i am feeding the new earthborn food. it is a natural holistic food that is made by the same company who makes sportmix. when i first got my beagle i fed dog chow with ok results. he ran ok but after i switched to the evo it seemed as a different dog. more alert and more stamina and he has kept nice and lean. feeding the no grain high end feed is like putting a dog on the atkins diet.

check out this site http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/

the one thing i always think about when i am looking at the high end dog food is where does the money go. i bet a lot of the high end natural feed is made by the bunny huggers. i wish i could find a site that told us. i bet that halo dog food is great but i know Ellen pushes it pretty hard and i bet she is not a big fan of hunting and some of the other stuff involved in our sports. also where you buy it matters. i do not shop at petsmart. i have seen they have contributed to the hsus.

later, dave

I feed the Diamond Naturals chicken and rice as well and have had great results. I know the Evo has fantastic ingredients, but I fed it to a female of mine while
she was pregnant and she never did adjust to it. It is great food, but really high priced. I will stay with the Diamond as long as I can get it reasonable. It did not get a
real bad rating either on the board I looked at, they said they could not prove meat content or it would be ranked higher.

The trials I've gone to that have dog food sponsors are always sponsored by Purina, Diamond, or Joy dog food. I've never seen any of the high dollar food companies sponsor any hunting related events
