Wendell Elmore also known as .potato chip man. lost his life trying to save one of his beagles out of a cistern Monday night. Right outside Georgetown Indiana chip was running 5 beagles when apparently as he was leaving somewhere around 7 thirty one came up missing. He was by his self so much of this is guessing what could have happened. They found him Tuesday morning in a open cistern along with the beagle. Just do a search on Google for Wendell Elmore beagle. Its the channel 11 Louisville Ky channel news. Most think he fell in while trying to reach the dog. Great guy great outdoorsman, will miss him more than one can imagine.

Heartbreaking story. I always run with a buddy just in case something should happen. You never know. His family will be in my prayers.

Very sad to hear stories like this one. Our heartfelt prayers go out to the family. May God bless, strenghten, and keep you.
It always amazes me the lengths we'll go, and the thing's we'll do for our hounds.

The English folks carry walking sticks(shepherds hook) with them while hunting. What a shame if a limb with a angled branch could have been used to snag the beagle's collar and lifted him to safety...
The main thing to remember is, we can do no person or animal any good if we end up in the drink with them.
My sympathy to his family...

My sympathy's go out to his family also.
And like S.R. said, it's a good time to be reminded of staying safe and always remember to tell the people you love that you love them..............you never know what can happen.

Chip was one of the best guys you could come across. I enjoyed running and hunting with him and will always have nothing but good memories.

Chip and another fellow was hunting along a railroad track a couple years ago when 2 of there dogs went in some kind of drianage catch. At that time the best i can remember they called the local rescue group who went down in and got the dogs out unharmed. My guess is he thought this dog was going to drown if he didnt do something. Someone posted on another website how they had a friend that had one go in a drain but called 911. We will never get it but my guess is Chip thought there wasnt time to get help. It wasnt his first rodeo when it comes to getting dogs in trouble. Funeral home was packed...
