i am wanting to build a new kennel lets see some ideas thanks

i would start by looking into any local ordinances your area requires.after you find these out(hopefully none)then the skys the limit on ideas.

I know they are more than wood, but I would seriously consider Senecca Kennels. i have on and a whelping box on the way. If I had it to do over again I would have two ro three
of them. They are nice!! All aluminum. JMO.

I do have two above ground kennels, but I favor a larger ground kennel. There are 3 kennels in this picture.

Just finished the roof on these... building the kennel houses this week (if lil one will let me )

12x24 pea gravel bed w/ 6x10 kennels attached using pannel clamps. Used top rail to build roof frame all
attached with gate clamps, treated 1x4's for roof support, roofing tin with 1/4" blue board underneath
to prevent heat transfer under the roof.

It is cooler under the kennels than under my covered patio in the heat of the day.

I know it's a little more money but I would put in a cement floor..........way easier to clean and sanitize and you don't have to worry about the hounds doing any digging either........no mud to lay in when it rains......etc. I'm also putting a septic in with mine that I'm getting ready to do right now. I am also planning on eventually fixing mine up with a fenced in area attached to the kennel on the back side for a little running area. I like to get them out for a little exercise even if I'm not running but it can be hard to keep them in the yard since they are hunting dogs and one of my better spots is right behind the house. Basically mine will be a 24'x32' pole building with one open wall on the kennel side and a center wall to separate the kennel area and my storage area for the food and what not. The kennel side will be divided into four areas that are about 12'x8'. I like this for room for the dogs to move around in. I usually keep 3-6 hounds at a time so I'll have room to separate them if need be and I can still kennel 2 or more together for the winter months. I'm pretty excited about getting mine up although I think the actually building may have to wait until spring...............I'm at least doing the cement and septic yet this year.

Also have 15' x 30' pads on both sides. one side has the 5' x 15' runs the other has 3 7'x12' and one 10 'x 10'

Bunnyblaster brought up a good point with the digging. I could not justify the expense of a concrete slab (but will agree it is best). IF you choose a pea gravel or any other type of crushed stone material... you would want to put a fence fabric of sorts under the meterial to prevent digging out. I have chainlink under mine... worked out real well... the hounds have attempted to dig but when they hit the fabric they shut down.

Eva, if you can find an old chest freezer that doesn't work you can use it to store your food in. It stays just as fresh as if you keep it in the bags plus you don't have to worry about any mice getting into it............if you have any problems with that.

I keep the open food in the green can. The only way a mouse could get in would be through the dog boxes, then wait for me to open the top to jump out, or chew through the inside, and I don't think the dogs would let them in there for very long. I know it is not impossible, but I haven't had an issue since I built it 6 years ago, Thanks for the comments, Brian.
