My dog Lady was attack by a Coyote Tonight

Post by Catfish »

This was going to be the last run of the Night. Lady Jumps the Rabbit and we was 100 Yards from the Truck, when hell come out of the Brush Lady Jump the Rabbit the other Two Dogs joins in. They only ran it for about Two Mins. Lady got ahead of the other dogs Thats when I heard the Screams from Hell, I took off running to the Bottom of the Ditch that she was in I was able to get about 15 to 20 Yards a way thats when I seen that Son of B&&&&. The Yote got off of her when he Seen me Coming and ran off. Lady just laid there Screaming in Pain, she has a Puncture Wound on her Shoulder and Two Puncture Wounds on her Chest area. Right now she is in a Box by my Bed, She is going to be all right, this just Scared the Hell out of me. I never had this happen to me, and if you haven't figure it out Lady is my Favorite out of all my dogs in my Kennel. Sorry Guys I had to Vent, I won't be going out again with out my Gun. Thanks for Reading.

Sorry to hear that. Its happening more often around here. At a trial a few weeks ago we had 3 out of 4 dogs attacked on one cast, but not bad. Watch for infections. The vet told me that yote bites have a lot of bacteria.

Get her on some antibiotics. NASTY BITES! I had a male that was bitten and I tried to get him cleaned up best I could. The wounds healed and then started swelling. I mean baseball sized! Vet drained and flushed them out and put him on antibiotics. A couple mo. later had to do it again. Could never get it cleared up all the way and I found him dead in his kennel. Kidney failure.
I been wanting to take up trapping them for a few years myself. They are gettin lousy around here! I did manage to hit one w/my car a couple mornings ago!!!!!! Knocked the ground effect loose and the fog light bulb out but darn, It was worth it! LOL!

Hi,
I live in Canada and we have more coyotes than anyplace I have been. I called and killed 152 of them last winter. You will never make a dent in them trapping or calling or any other method. They have been pressured for many years and they still make a come back.
I use bells and so does Branko and we do not have any trouble with them as long as we use the bells. Coyotes are EXTREMLY territorial and that is why they attack beagles. Use bells everytime. He lives in Manitoba and I live in Saskatchewan so it works in at least 2 places.

Let me know where you get the bells. I would like to order some to. Coyotes are becoming a big problem in SE KY to. Hope your dog is recovering well I had a friend who's best dog was chased by a coyote into the road and ran over about a week ago. Good Luck

Bill Boatmin has bells, sleigh bells are ok but i think the small cow bells work better, i use bells on all my dogs, they may not work all the time but i will always have them on my dogs anyway.

they have bells at bass pro 5 bucks

I use the bell so far its kept the song dogs away and I like it to keep track of the dog when she is not baying.

your dog is very likely to get an infection.

my dog got bit by my moms golden retriever. It was just 1 puncture wound. By the time we found the wound puss was oozing out and they took half her shoulder off. She made a good recovery but i can still tell one shoulder is smaller then the other.Cost 450 bucks !

get your dog on anti biotics NOW !

I'm getting a handgun to carry while running the dog with the shotgun or no long gun in the off season. I will use it to shoot anything that attacks the dog or me . I will also blast any coyote i see. One day my dog is going to run into a bear and try to make friends.

Sorry to hear that, I live in Pittsburgh and them yotes are gettin worse and worse in SWPA. I was always taught since I was little to "never go in the woods without a gun". Probably won't prevent the initial attack, but at least you can drill that nasty no good yote if you see him.
Hopefully the bells workout for you. I have em on my pups so I can tell where they're at (they seem to get a lil bit deaf sometimes) but its a bonus if they keep yotes away too. Got mine @ Gander.
