Dogs Kill Snake

This afternoon the dogs started raising cane - so I walked over to see what in the world was going on. This unfortunate Chicken Snake ended up in the dog lot w/ 5 dogs. They made quick work of it. I wished I'd been there to see which dog dove in first. The dog in the pic is a 8 yr old female and she was actually kinda guarding the snake as if it was hers. Glad it wasn't a copperhead or rattler.

Dang Pete! Glad none of the dogs caught some fangs to the nose. Which one do you think got it first? I would guess Clyde or Fancy. Thats funny about Echo guarding it lol

Next time if you can you might want to see cant you save Chicken / Rat snakes etc. they are excellent pest control they are non poisonous and hunt mice , rats and such. Plus you can use them for snake avoidance training without worrying about harm to the dogs or yourself.

Here is a good write up on it.

Hand - my guess is Fancy, but who knows? May have been Echo. Hope all is well.

Gbeagle - I don't intitially kill chicken snakes, that is unless they make a habbit of hanging out on my back deck. I would have fished him out of the dog pen if I had got there in time. I thought about trying to break my dogs on snakes, but honestly in the 5 yrs. I've lived in this part of TN, I have never seen a poisoness snake (and I spend a lot of time in the woods / field). Anyway, I know there are areas where snakes are real bad and keeping dogs away from snakes is real important.
