My first choice would be a Northway bred dog, maybe something out of Buzzsaw. Second choice would be Junie. One of the best I ever saw was a bitch out of Snow Country Tasha ( littermate to To Me) bred to Northway Spur.

Just asking,It is not that hard to see that you southern cottontail guys are going up north hare dog blood but how many generations do you go up there before you bring it back to southern cottontail breeding?

Never look back. Just got in from running Hare hounds. It is hot and has gotten quite dry this last week. The 3 I ran tonight are the fastest I own, they had no trouble circling one several times through the blackberry briar thickets. They were a little rough at times, but they got the job done. I watched as they walked out a line on a dusty power line road then exploded when they hit the cut over. I have seen the light. Some guys rode up on four wheelers and commented on how my "deer hounds" were pounding up and down the hills. I almost hated to tell them they were running a rabbit.
I have some Sock it To Me blood through Chester and think the Northway crosses are working good with some T-Rex thrown in. I also owned a female that had some Sock it To Me crossed with Syris Mcgee that was a nice dog.

For my money, I would go to something based on Doms Dougie or Mt Zion Pete.

That means Ausable river, Little cedar river, Birtch lake, etc, and Spur, and or Dingus. A lot of the dingus stuff you find also has gertrude in it, if you have blue banks stuff, this matches up.

Reason for my theory is that you will find to me was bred based mostly on those two dogs, and from my perspective those crosses seem to work out the best. Above all, look at the two individual dogs you are going to breed.

Pine Mt breeding is where I would look. Junie, but also, RAD has a dog named Charley.

I would also like to see a breeding of a good to me bitch to rolling trails. Might be interesting.

As far as the hare vs cotton tail. 40 or 50 years ago nobody made a distinction between the two. You just had good dogs and bad ones. Good ones ran whatever you wanted to gun. My father had Yellow Creeks, and ran both hare and cotton tail. You would traditionally think of them as cotton tail type dogs. No?

See ya

I have a male that I like very well that is two generations back to Sock It To Me. I bred him to a Maravic's Blue Ninja - Blue Barry bitch. The pups turned out Great. I was thinking about line breeding my male to a good female.

I own a linebred sock it to me bitch that I bred to my HOF linebred Redman stud and came out with a really good litter of pups. I kept two that are gonna die at my kennel. A friend of mine who lives in Mont Belvieu,Texas has one that he really likes. And Mike Shaw from West Virginia has one that he said turned out really good. Chris Herpin
