Like I said, I am new to this and I believe in asking a lot of questions. So I am sorry if I am aggravating anyone, but I was wondering what is the closest bred dog to Dingus MacRae I could expect to find nowadays? Is there any grand pups around or great grand pups?

Probably great grand is as close as you can get. I know where his grand dog is but has not been able to breed foe 3-4 years. I know where a great great grandson is but this is as ckose as I know of for sure.

The dog I am getting this weekend is a great-great grandson with two more shots in the next gen and one more in the next gen all through Branko's white blizzard.

Well, you have to look at it this way. Dingus Macrae was born July 27, 1973. If he sired a pup at the age of 12, that would bring you up to 1985. If that pup would sire at the age of 12, that would bring you up to 1997. If that pup sired at the age of 12, that would bring you up to date, 2009. And this 2009 pup would be a great-grand pup of Dingus Macrae. But that is a huge amount of “ifs”.

We have been line-breeding Dingus blood since the late 80’s early 90’s, out-crossing it with Yellow Creek, Indian Hills and Gay Baker lines. Last summer we bred “Ozzie”, who has 9 crosses of Dingus in 5 generations, with a female we have that has 14 crosses of Dingus in 6 generations. Now if you were to look at a full 7 generation pedigree you will see Dingus 23 times. That is 23 times out of 126 dogs. But when you line-breed and you are also breeding half mates out of Dingus, or Uncle to nieces etc… you increase your chances of preserving the characteristics of Dingus himself.

By no means am I saying you will duplicate him, but if your looking for Dingus Macrae blood, you want to find somebody that has line-bred his off spring “tight” and have used complimentary and similar dogs when they did out-cross. Our dog with the 23 crosses of Dingus is “watered down” Dingus blood, needless to say about the hounds that have 5 or 6 crosses in a 7 generation pedigree.

But to answer your question, I agree with what the others have said, a great grand pup {able to breed} is not out of the question but a more vibrant young good producing great great grand pup is what you will mostly find out of him. They are out there if you look with a few breeders, just not very many for sale. - Hope this helps, Jim

laneline Kennels is your best option. I don't know jim, but i do know Larry Perry and i seen most of his dogs run. Larry knows his dogs and you can take what ever he says to the bank.

I have two 10 wk old pups out of Larry Perry's stuff right now. He and Laneline are the Dingus connection!
I went to Larry's and picked up my two pups. He is an encyclopedia of the Dingus line. The pups I got are Nice!!
The male is marked a lot like old dingus himself. They are out of two different crosses and both are bold and
rabbit crazy at an early age. The male ran a San Juan tonight in my yard by sight, opening every breath and the female
was right there gettin' it to she just seems to be tighter with her mouth at this point. It is very early but they act great
at this age. I would definitely recommend a pup from Larry or Laneline. They both have good females and reproduce
some hard hunting rabbit dogs!!

Bill Miller of Manchester,Tn. has Shamrock who is a littermate brother to Laneline's Ozzie.Shamrock is a Grand Rabbit Champion and the old boy can still run one!

I have a male dog out of LP GR R CH Hill's Shakerag Jerry Lee and Mt. View Gunsmoke Dahl which is a female out of Shamrock. When he is on the top of his game he is hard to run with.
