starting to wonder if its worth it.......

Post by andrew_kirby »

after a recent event involving a good friend of mines lab pup that broke her leg and the vet telling him that it would cost 3500 dollars for the surgery and she wouldnt make it back to 100 percent afterwards im just wondering 1. why the vets are all about making money anymore. and 2. If anyone has ever considered gettin some sort of pet insurance or knew if any....i dont want to get into the details because were pretty close and i loved that pup of his but he had no option to put her down...I am outraged at what vets are charging now adays i remember being younger and had a coon hound get it one night my dad and me showed up at the local feed store, kennel supply, vets house at 1130 and he fixed the dog for us and charged us next to nothing now all you see are these corporation vet clinics charging an arm and a leg for there services......

sorry guys needed to get it out...anyways pray for my buddy hes taking this pretty hard

We all understand and most probably all feel the same as you.
It has got out of control ...

Here is a Vet that feels just as strong about the way dog owners are being riped off

I've looked at the insurance but at $120 per dog each year I couldn't justify it

I know the feeling. A couple of years ago my lab got hit by a car and broke his leg. The vet rushed him into surgery and about 1500 dollars later they screwed his leg back together. A couple of weeks later the screws failed and we wound up having to have his leg amputated. I spoke with a specialist and they said that the screws have a very small success rate and that I should have had them use a plate and wire, which has a very high sucess rate but a little cheaper :angryfire:

Needless to say I think vets are crooks :bash:

I head out of the burbs to the closest small town, but even there they've doubled the size of the office/facility and it seems like there's new fees that get tacked on to pay for it. I asked the vet about heartworm meds for our Aussie (I read something about collie-type breeds can have problems from it) and he said they gave it to the herders, but then conditioned it with, "Now don't be using cattle medication on your dogs! We'll price match whatever you can find heartgard for online, but you shouldn't be using the other stuff." Kind of reminds me of when the doctor told me I shouldn't order Proscar online and use it "off-label" instead of paying more for Propecia.
