using python tags

need info from anyone using python ear tags on their collars.
how do I attach them to the collar? Is it only possible to use one tag per dog, or are you able to cut the tag and be able to use one tag on several dogs?
I had never seen one of these tags before. When I took one out of the bag, it wasn't what I was expecting. Now I'm not sure how to attach it.

I loop mine around to form a circle, punched the pointed stud back into itself, then ground off the point. Remove the collar from the dog and slide it over the collar and put the collar back on the dog. Last all summer.

THESE THINGS ARE REALLY GOOD FOR TICKS AND EVERYTHING BUT I HAD A DOG THAT WAS REALLY NICE AND IT MESSED WITH HIS VOCAL CORDS AND HE LOST HIS MOUTH TOTALY BUT I TOOK IT OFF HIS COLLAR AND HE GOT HIS MOUTH BACK IN ABOUT A WEEK

BUT ID SAY MOST DOGS DONT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THEM BECAUSE I USED THEM FOR A COUPLE YEARS WITH NO PROBLEMS UNTILL THIS DOG AND THEN I DECIDED TO GO WITH SOMETHING ELSE

I have used them for a couple of years now and they work great and I haven't had any problems with them. I do mine just like Buckshot 101

I did mine exactly the same way but wasn't sure if they would stay on or not until I saw this thread. I ordered some from a reputable supplier on this board and they arrived already sone something like that and stayed on all last summer. When my hounds would come out of the weeds I would see an occasional tick crawling on them but it soon fell off. The tags are especially good if you have flies biting bloody places on their ears.

You guys need to watch your dogs carefully for sore from these tags. I was told by an Old Timer to watch the area where the tags are located on the collars as he had dogs get severe burns from these tags and after 3 weeks I notice my female had a bad sore on her throat and I removed the tag and gave her a bath and cleaned her up and it disappeared within a week. I use a Tie Wrap in place of the pins and no need to purchase the tool needed for them. I since have put it back on the female along with my other hounds but not have it overlapping the buckle and with the tie out chains holding the collars in one position the tag now sits on the back of her neck. These tags work so-so. I noticed not as many ticks but I still pulled 10 to 14 ticks off my dogs from running this weekend that were embeded. Now I usually pick 30 or more off so it was reduced but like Frontline and other products it wasn't fully effective. But one thing they are great for is keeping flies and gnats away from their heads and ears. If the dogs don't get bad reactions then its worth it to me just for this alone. I now use Frontline along with the Tags and even with them both there are still ticks on my dogs and I use cedar shavings replaced every three weeks. We just have bad ticks here. One pup I pulled out of the starters pen with no collars or Frontline had 76 ticks on him. Just watch your dogs for bad reactions including swelling of the throat and glands.

RHF, thanks for the heads up. I will keep an eye on my hounds for any signs you mentioned. That is why this board is here, for us to use to the benefit of all. By the way, if you sprinkle some Sevin dust in their bedding, it takes care of just about any external parasite, ticks, fleas, and flies. Someone on this board once said to put it in a Mason jar, poke some holes in the lid, and it makes a good sprinkler for the Sevin.

I have had ticks get on the dogs while I have the ear tags on but when I get ready to pull the ticks off they are usually dead. I have a question, I keep tags on all my dogs even my Rottweiler. I have a female that had pups two day ago so should I take the tags off her or do you fellows think they will hurt the pups if I leave them on her and if I take the tag off will it hunt to put sevin dust on the female or should i wait until they get older to treat the female with flea treatment ?

I had the same problem with my dog losing his mouth cost me alot money to figure out it was just the cattle tag. It done something to his vocal cords, removed his tag and took about a month before his mouth came back right. Everybody says I use them and have no problem like that but not every dog is the same. So I don't use them on any of my dogs
