I'm ready to hit the mountains.. Big Horn mountains in Wyoming. Wondering where to look for hare... what specific habitat do they live in? Where should I be casting the hounds?

Fir thickets are great in the winter.

This time of year I go down in the swampy areas then pick the nastiest looking cover and that's where they'll jump the hare

Houndsound, I don't have any idea what kind of cover hare use in the mountains. Here where I hunt I look for heavy overhead cover. Hare almost never go out in the open like cottontails do. Areas that have been logged and grown back in aspen are good, spruce is always good, pines are good until they start to shade out the lower limbs, then the hare move out. Hare seem to love jack pine/hazel brush cover here. In winter, swamps that border any of the above types of cover always hold hare.

I have hunted lions in the Bighorns many years ago. Seems like most of it was straight up and straight down. Hard for a flatlander to get used too  Looking forward to pictures and a story.

Well I made time today to get on the mountain..... and of course we get a weird June snow storm up there. I think all the game was holed up because of the storm. I did find one area with lots of hare tracks... but they seemed 6 - 12 hrs. old I figured. Dogs hunted hard but didn't jump any.... I'll return there later.
