learning the lemons

Post by mtn style »

anyone know any good breeders or owners of lemon and white dogs. I just started looking in the lemons and just got a male that hunts real good, has good foot runs in front most of the time, but dont really know much about them. I have owned beagles most of my life only heard the lemons dont have that great of a nose.

color has no bearing on a dog's nose don't listen to whomever told you that. if you are int in lem dogs look into patch hounds.

You might want to check with Mike Crabtree. He has a female that just won the Little Pack World hunt in the Grand Champion class, that is lemmon and white.
You can look on his web site by clicking the link below.

You can find lemons in several different bloodlines. My favorite lemons are probably the Satsuma dogs. However I have seen nice ones from both the Northway and Patch lines also.It all depends on what you are looking for in a dog as to which way you should go.Good luck with your search.

Color is color. All of our dogs are lemon and white or tan and white. Genetically they are different, but visually they can be pretty close. We have all Patch hounds. We like the Patch hounds hunting style. But know what you like before you chase a color or bloodline. If you want something slower that keeps their nose to the ground and barks their head off, Patch aren't for you. These dogs are fast, hard hitting, thinkers. When the rabbits are up and running, all the Patch hounds I know turn into sight hounds, they keep their eyes on the rabbit until they lose sight of it, then drop their heads back down. Notoriously tightmouthed, but when they open up, you better have your safe off, cause they are bringing dinner home. We like the color cause it is easier to see in the terrain we hunt in. But for us, it is the Patch style and their ability to go from hunting machines to couch potatoes that win it for us every time. All 5 of ours live in the house.

What up coming litters--lemons and white--do you know of coming up? I saw Johnsons Double Trouble's picture here on board and some goods things said about him. Would be interested in a lemon and white female pup only, out of a nice hard hunting female. Never owned a lemon colored beagle but have always wanted to try one.

Well put Tiffin, folks don`t talk much about PATCH HOUNDS because,
1/ they are actually the wrong color for 99% of the people

2/ a lot of them swing,skirt,are fast,over run

3/ don`t open till the game is up

The list goes on and on and on.
Check my cherokee4030 youtube acct out, over 100 video`s of PATCH HOUNDs smokin Snowshoe,Swamper`s and Cottontails. You WON`t get many replies don`t make any difference how good they do.
I wonder some time why I feed these hounds, then I have races like I posted on here ( Patch Work) and remember why I wouldn`t feed any thing else.

I have patch hounds and tiffinis described them pretty much to a tee.....I don't know why some people think they need more nose....... :?: they were originated in the north country where they get plenty of snow and cold weather.....they will lift there heads when the sight chase is on and they are trying too catch dinner.....sounds good too... thanks cojax
