I bought my dad a bluetick female pup, shes 6 weeks old, and next week I get to give it to my dad in Indiana for x-mas, right now I am keeping the pup inside since its cold. is keeping a pup inside bad to do?> I want her to be a heller huntin hound.

Keeping a pup inside has nothing to do with how it will turn out as a hunter. I believe that you will have a more socialized dog if it is an inside pet.

That's right Ryan, you must be careful or the pup will be retrieving the rabbits to you and not your dad...lol, Have the camera ready to catch the look on his face when he gets the pup, those shots are worth a million.

I agree.....My dad sold most of his dogs to a freind, because when I moved away in the Marines, he really didn't have anyone to hunt with like his good ol son. its great though, he doesnt know anything. and i cant wait to catch the look on his face:) hopefully the pup will make a darn good rabbit dog:)

Inside dogs run just as hard. Don't fall for any of the bull about "it will ruin their nose" and "beagles are outside dogs". Now if you keep the dog inside and only run it in the winter, it may not care for the cold and such. But if you run your dog as often as you should, below zero won't matter to her...as long as she's with you. There are still goofballs around here who insist that "beagles can't be kept on the ground. They have to be kept up off the ground". How being 4 foot off the ground affects the olfactory senses or the desire to hunt is beyond me...bunch of crap.
