Bunnyblaster, Franks Sporting Goods in Morley (about 40 min. from Belding) sells Hi Standard. They are under new ownership and have started selling a few trapping and dog supplies although most of the dog stuff is for coon dogs. I have been buying the 26/18 for $20 a bag. They also sell the yelow and blue bags that are 21/12 and 23/16 I think. The prices on these are a dollar or two cheaper per bag if I remember right. Their phone number is 231 856 7778.

I've been feeding it 26/18 for over three yrs now and they have definatily changed something in it. It used to be real dark and had a greasy texture to it. The dogs stool always looked good. Now it is light in color and real dry and is also running right thru my dogs. I called the number on the bag and asked them if they changed anything, naturally they told me no, but like I said I have been feeding it a long time and I know better. I say they changed something. If it keeps running thru my dogs I'm going to change to something else.

Roy...I also noticed the last few bags of 26/18 seemed dry with little to no "feed odor", similar to the 21/10 I feed our lab (which I expect to me more dry with less protien content). The bags I bought last week seemed to be better than the last...vertict is out. I haven't noticed a change in the dogs, just in the smell and texture of the feed....I agree something changed, not sure yet if they changed back or if the "new" bags I got are "old bags" compared to the two I bought last month.
It will be sad if the formula has changed because I thought I had dawned on the "perfect feed" a year or so ago....I switched because Pride decided to do a similar thing...all of my dogs were vomiting and Pride refused to do anything about it or admit that there could be a "possible" problem or switch in formulas....and they refused to investigate the problem or let me send them a sample of the feed from their bag for them to test. Plus their prices went up way more than any other feed out there....I had enough of them after dealing with them on the phone and their laid back attitude...meanwhile my dogs were puking in the kennel.
Not sure what I will switch to if Hi-Standard screws up a good thing......

I've been feeding it for about 10 yrs with no trouble untill about a month or so ago. The feed changed its not the same color my hounds are lacking energy and my kennels are a mess every night. I called High Standard and was told nothing changed. I can't hardly believe it I've fed it for to long to see such a drastick change in my hounds. I'm looking to switch feeds I don't know what else to do. I don't feel like I'm getting what i'm paying for.

Don and Kelly, I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed this. I told them I would try one more batch before I changed, but I can assure you if it is not back to the way it used to be I am done. I don't have a clue what I will go to, but I am not feeding something that runs right thru them.

Been feeding it for about 7 + years. Over the past 6 months i had noticed a change in the dogs stool. Its not runny, but isnt completly solid either. Dogs appearance and performance hasn't changed. Im debating on given something else a try. Thought about Black Gold, used to feed that a while back. Any other sugestions on a new food.

The best I ever fed was Exceed from Sams Club...a little pricey but the dogs looked good and I fed very little to keep them at proper body weight so it kind of equaled out. I might switch back...they have Pink (26/18) bag and Yellow (30/20) bag...around $30 for 44#. I would like to try Sportmix but the closest vendor around me only carries the regular blend with the lowest protien for house dogs...I might just have to try talking them into getting the performance blend.
I hope I don't have to switch...my guess is they have opened a new plant or have contracted with a new plant to make their feed and are experiencing "technical difficulties" getting the same quality. Very unfortunate for them because they have a huge following right now.

I feed the 30/20 exceed for a while also Kelly and liked it. This is what I feed before switching to the hi standard. I did it for the convenience of them delerving it to the house. I have a dog here now that I am running for a buddy and exceed is the feed he sent here with her. Hardly any mess and she looks good. I hope they get it straightened out as well.
Your right chippewa not runny but very soft and light in color.

the dogs stoll are very light and soft. I have been running very hard and it seems like the dogs are lacking energery.

I have been feeding Hi-Standard for a couple of years now, and I haven't noticed a difference yet. I feed the 26-18 purple bag. 2 - 2 1/2 cups in the winter, 1 1/2 - 2 cups in the summer. If I increase one dog a little for whatever reason, I sometimes notice the stool is a little softer, I just cut back until it is right again. On the old bags it said omega 3 and omega 6 added, on the new bags it only says one is added. I am not home to check, I don't remember which one is missing. All other ingredients look the same, Brian.

I felt I needed to respond to this post. I have been feeding HI STANDARD 26-18 for about five years, with very good results. When I picked up my last load, I noticed the bag had changed. The old bag was some type of oil cloth. The new bag is paper. Further investagation revealed the ingredients have been changed. The ingredient list on the back of the old bag reads meat and bone meal, ground yellow corn, ground wheat, corn gluten meal, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), dried beet pulp, and so on. On the new bag the ingredients list reads, poultry meal, corn gluten meal, poultry fat (preserved with mixed tocopherlos and citric acid), meat meal, dried beet pulp, animal digest, brewers yeast, so on and so on. Definately a change in the ingredients. The calorie statement on the old bag reads 3,680 kcal/kg. The new bag reads 3,331 kcal/kg. Read the lables and compare for yourself. Hope this helps.

Your right Clem that is another reason why I called them. They told me they had some old bags in stock that they wanted to use up. I ask him if they were allowed to do that and he said as long as it was old stock. Anyway he told me that just a couple of people had called and complained. So if you want to let him know that you are unhappy with the changes here is the number 866-357-3335 the guys name is Wade.
