Trapping Wild Rabbits

Post by harechaserWV »

How would I go about it? I have permission to trap my buddy's overpopulated property of as many rabbits I can catch. I also have access to a 2 acre fenced in rabbit run that currently has no rabbits in it (the guy sold them all). I want to catch the wild rabbits and release them into the rabbit run for my pup since she just caught the tame rabbit I let her chase in the run. I drug a fresh dead rabbit around the woods and she tracked it very quickly, finding it everytime and barely straying off the track at all. Then I took her to my buddy's property(40 acres unfenced) today and she ran 3 rabbits to me so I believe she's on the right track (9 months). Anyways, what would I use for bait? Would I just use a wire drop door trap? Does it need to be covered with brush? Thanks, Brad

Apple with vanilla flavoring. And yes I would cover the trap with brush or straw works good.

Get someone to show you how to build the rabbit box trap, and use the apple for bait.. The box trap in my opinion is alot better than these new conventional metal traps, but that is only my opinion

Everyone has there own different ways of catching wild rabbits, listen to everyone and use what you think is best. This Winter from Jan. to the Middle of Feb. I caught 28 Total and I did not trap every day, I use Apples and a little bit aof Vanilla just like the other person told you to use.
I live outside of Charleston out 77 North give me call and I can show you my Traps that are not hard to build and do a good job. Give me a call in the afternoon at 304-984-1430.
