8 Days of Hunting Deer/Rabbit hunts

Its been an heck of a week. I took off work for thanksgiving week for what else to hunt!!!
First off I'd like to Thank Yellowdog for having us out at his place. We tried very hard to get a deer on his property. We even pulled an all day deer hunt in the freezing cold. Opening weekend we saw plenty of deer activity. I shot at a doe with my rifle fairly close in the wood. it took off running and I never knew what happened. Not sure if I hit it or not didn't find any blood either. After that no more deer seen. They all vanished probably went into hiding. We tried hard just couldn't get it done. Thanks alot tracy that was very kind of you. We really appreciate the opportunity.
So after I had given up deer hunting. I call up Done Gone beagles. Hey Mike lets go rabbit hunting is what i said. I told him about my deer hunting and how i didn't get one. He suggested we go hunt his brothers property. 536 acres of wonderful land. I really like that place. Great for deer turkey rabbit. You name it. So we meet up early sunday morning. He drives me out to a nice deer stand. I get all settled in. My dad and brother on the other side of the place and Done Gone Beagles in the center. Mike hunted for an hour or so then sat in his car and fell asleep. We both had walkie talkie so I radio to him about 9:45 "hey mike I see 4 does on the wood edge to far to shoot" he says leave them be they will come out sooner or later. So I wait it out. Next thing you know it Mike strolls on down the edge of the field. He said he wanted to jump them out towards me. So I tell him where. He continues in the direction. All the sudden he radios back to me "Joey I see them" followed by KAPOW KAPOW gets back on the radio "Joey I droped two and one is headed your way" I got ready and it cut across the field instead. I climbed out of the tree stand and congratulated mike about 20 times for dropping two deer like it was nothing. He's the deer slayer. Good job Mike and thanks for the baby doe. Tasted really good.

I was selected for a managed Deer hunt for Nov 24-28. So early morning I head out. Keep in mind this place is shotgun and slug only. As soon as I step foot out of the truck here come three doe bouncing across a levee. I put a stalk on them. Got maybe 75 yards and let the lead fly. Nothing. Didn't hit a thing. The deer even stood there after I had shot twice. I took my time for the last shot held er steady. Nope nothing. I hunting again tuesday the same spot and didn't see a thing. I gave up and slept in wednesday.
So no deer for me still after all this time. This has been the 5th season and still not a deer kill for me.
I went back to what I know best Rabbit Hunting. Broke out the dogs friday morning and had a good old time. Them dogs were just a singing rabbit after rabbit. I say we jumped 15+ rabbits on this day here. 2 man hunt with my 4 beagles. We both should have got our limit.

On this day here we teamed up with Done gone Beagles and dropped 9 hounds on the ground. Jumped 12+ rabbits. It was tougher on us this day. Hunting alot of thickets with Zero visibilty. So we'd move the hounds out. Rabbits never wanted to come out. Try a different spot here and there. Alot of other rabbit hunters too. Alot of dogs barking all over the place.
Got a quail so did my dad. I'm good for atleast one quial a season. Holding up the largest rabbit of the season. He was huge and had a big head.

Had a snow storm blow thru the STL area. Can't resist a good rabbit chase thru the snow. It was a little spotty on the running. Dogs just aint use to snow. But they still got it done. We didn't find as many rabbits. Jumped 8 total. Mostly in brush piles they'd go from one to the next and never offer a shot. A few were just plain lost. Dogs take it so far then quit. Maybe they holed maybe they just lost the scent. But we did have a couple nice runs thru the snow. It was fun even though I was wet up to my waist and freezing.

we made this sunday night. This time added garlic cloves and pinnapple. Mmmmmmmm
