Woodbury Wildlife hunters BEWARE
Had a dog picked up within a hundreds yards of me near TR 400 today by a thief. I heard talking then a car drive off. Didn't think much of it but noticed my young female was missing and she handles great and returns on tone quickly. I started getting a little nervous thinking about the car driving away and hearing talking. The wind was blowing pretty hard so voices were traveling down the hollar I was hunting. I have no problem with this bitch running trash and she was right there with the other three dogs all day. Something didn't add up and I started to fear for the worse. My buddy decided to drive down the road on his way out and look for her and I stayed in the area where we last seen my missing dog. To make a long story short within 30 minutes of her coming up missing my buddy, fast eddy, found her walking the gravel road about a mile away with her regular collar and her tritronics e-collar missing. This was off Tunnel Hill Rd. (541) on TR400. Be careful if you run in this area. I am just thankful I got Rosie back...I can replace the collar. I don't know why they took both collars. Eddy seen a suspicious baby blue 90's vintage Chevy Blazer drive by him real slow right where he found my dog. Don't know if it was them but they were rather shady looking characters in the car.
Be careful.
Be careful.

I was there a last week. I have seen the truck you are talking about. Hope he gets caught and glad you found your dog.

I suspicion that they heard the dogs pounding 1 for about 80 min back and forth in the hollow i heard the dog bark 3 times to my right the big tuna and maggie checked her but came back and she never made another bark,i went over the hill and heard a vehicle stop and voices in he wind .The vehicle pulled away and we never seen the dog again till i found her scared and roaming by 541 ,as the blue blazer pulled by slowly ,also nocollars .

If its the same truck I think the guy was shooting deer from his truck. When I drove up he pulled a rifle in his truck and drove off. You were lucky to get the dog back.

Thanks eddy for sticking around after you wrenched your knee and helping me find Rosie. I appreciate it a bunch. Would have been sick to my gut if I had to return home without her. I wish I would have caught those dirtbags putting her into their vehicle.
btw, Tuna looked even better than he did last year and he looked very good then, too. He is a very nice hound.... I like him a lot.

Re: Woodbury Wildlife hunters BEWARE
i had a little conflict there about a month ago, myself.me and a friend of mine headed down there just before the little world. same situation we was right off of 541 past the shooting range.we had decided to split up, i had 3 dogs running they had lost the track for about 10 min, when i decided to call them in. same thing my female handles like a bird dog.i called for about ten minutes when i knew somthing was wrong the 2 males made it back,no female.so i started getting nervious.i walked around for 2 hours calling.there i was stuck no car and no cell phone reception.finally, i climmed this big hill and got service checked my messages and sombody had called about her. they said, they seen her crossing the road and seen no cars so they thought she was lost.im just lucky i got her back, because thats how easy it can happen there, i never even knew what happend.

I am from that area but I live in Newark now. We hunt Woodbury all the time. its not hard to lose a dog out there. I like to run bells on my dogs out there. I will tell everyone i know that hunts out there to be on the look out. Cell phones are about useless out there.

Well I don't get over that way much but I'm glad y'all are putting the word out. Not sure if it would help but has anyone told the local DNR officer about this? Seems to me those Thieves would be a 2-fer for the DNR. (The DNR gets enough calls about it and I'm sure they'll pay extra attention) Either way I'm glad y'all got your dogs back. The collars are easy to replace but a good running dog isn't.

Thornie,
The next time I run there I am calling you up and get a true guide service. I doubt anyone kows this area better than you.
It may have not been the Blazer but there were NO hunters on that road when we left there right after finding Rosie and they did look creepy. I still can not understand why they took her regular collar off of her. I figured it is worthless to them but I can see where the Tri-Tronics e-collar would be worth enough to go buy some crystal meth or a bag of dope. I can not believe how bold they were to take this dogs a hundred yards from mine and eddy's truck and a 100 yards or so from us...of course that area is so huge they probably figured we were down in the jungle or over the hill.
My dog was very scared from this entire experience but when I got her home and fed she seems OK now. I try to get my dogs to hunt away from me after years of keeping this close. I am going to rethink how far away I will let them range going forward.

I called called the ODNR today and the Sherrifs office and reported the incident. The sherrifs officer was really cool and seemed as concerned as I am about the ordeal. Must have been a hunter.

Thornie, we did sneak in one afternoon, thats why I didn't call. I have a couple of pups I am starting. I knew they had to be running good when they run with your dogs. I have a new young male that is running so we will be down soon. Sounds like Pike's dogs are on top of their game so it should be some good running.

Re: Woodbury Wildlife hunters BEWARE
I was down at woodbury sunday about 2 miles from 541 me and a buddy was hunting along a county road when we heard a vehicle coming down the road and stop we heard the doors slam and as we came over the hill there was a blue blazer pulled off the road and a guy was walking up the hill but he was hunting for game this man was on a mission we watched him just walk as fast as he could up the hill and then he would stop and look back at us watching him well he finally when outta eyesight and dissapeared well me and my buddy found this strange because the guy was definately not hunting. Well about 10 min. later he popped out about 150 yds from where he dissapeared he came about half way down the hill torwards his truck stopped and stared are way it was really weird, then he just went down the hill got into the vehicle and drove away slowly, we thought nothing of it until my buddy called me last night and told me about this post that guy must make a habbit of trying to steal dogs well if he reads this he should know steal my dogs and i catch you, you may become some cochocton soil real fast like. well i agree guys beware when out there keep your dogs close and have a good eye on them if they dissapear you not see them again...
