Today I read the label on Purina and read other labels on dog feeds while town. I purchased a cheap bag of Fred Meyer dog feed to compare the looks of the feed. In a feed bowl I cannot tell one from the other. I have been a Purina man for years, but the corn deal has me looking around. How about Ol' Roy? Thanks for any knowledge passed on about Ol'Roy.

Are you talking PMI or Ralston Purina. They are not the same. ol roy is milled at Doanes which mills about 30 other brands of feeds. PMI is milled there also. They also make most grocery chain brand dog foods. CHEAP FEEP WITH LOTS OF CORN . I am going with DIAMOND now after 15 years with Ralston Purina.

Iam talking Ralston Purina , I too was fan until latey my dogs are not holding up their weight as in the pasted.

I suppose if you were just feeding a yard dog Ol' Roy would be ok but if you run your dogs much I think you will find they will get poor on Ol'Roy. Buy a good feed and you will feed less and your dogs will look and perform better. I would recommend Diamond or Black Gold. I feed Diamond because it is easier to get. I have fed Black Gold and I was pleased with it also. You get what you pay for!

Jack, I used to have a large male Balck&Tan Coonhound that would easily eat 50Lbs a week. For that reason, I had him on Ole Roy. He was a popping machine and his coat would shed and look dull. I tried all the ole roy versions and it didn't make a difference. On the few times I ran out of Ole Roy and was too lazy to go get some, I would put him on IAMs (that's what I feed my two beagles). I swear, withing a few days, you could tell the difference. I'm not suggesting buying expensive food if you have to feed a large pack, but I would stay somewhere in the middle and ole roy (IMHO) is near the bottom. Hope it helps

I fed Purina Pro Plan for years and as I got more dogs the price got a bit crazy. I have been feeding Ol Roy for about two years and as far as stool and stamina I see no difference between it and Pro Plan. However, my dogs coats are better on Ol Roy. If you are concerned about fat and protein content not being enough, check out Ol Roy in the brown bag, it is a performance formula. My vet has even recommended Ol Roy as being the best food on the market for the money. Try it, youve got nothing to lose.

i feed only diamond food to my pack after trying many other brands---hands down diamond is the way to go

I feed my beagles (three of them) a mixture of the Ol Roy. I mix the Lamb and Rice with the High Protein blend. Stool has been solid and dark. Coats very shiny. My dogs stay outside where it's very cold (Duluth, MN) and keep their weight good all year. I've been happy with the Ol Roy. I wouldn't however use the cheap Ol Roy in the Red bag.

I try to use just a little ol roy because it is cheaper, but i mix it in with a little cat food not much to make them sick, it makes them just a little bit more hyper, and I put a bag of purina in with it and mix I use the pups formula in purina because of the protein. I have 2 coon dogs and 2beagles that have the prettiest coats you could ever see

I have been useing old Roy pro mix for two years and the puupy one for my last litter. Last year I run the 2 females every day except Sunday for 3 months and they kept there weight on. My pups are eight weeks old and the vet said he never seen a healther litter. Still charged me 165.00to worm and neddle the 9 of them. The mother got 2 cans of Old Roy lamb and rice and free choice puppy chow and she hardly lost apound nurseing. I would try Old Roy and if it didn,t work go to something more expensive. Fred

Try Exceed Lamb & Rice,pink bag from Sams Club.Very fair price $19. something a bag and works great.You get coupons just like other brands.Shiny Shiny coats,very little pick up,they use it all up.Same percentages as Pro Plan.Must taste better too,the dogs and puppies would leave Black Gold in the auto feeder and only eat what I put out in bowls.Finally dumped feeder for neighbors dogs.
