Seems like the price of everything is climbing up around here and that includes most off the dog food and the sad part is most of the bag sizes are going down along with the price hike. my winter time food has went from $18 to $25 for a 50lb bag and dog chow witch i used to feed alot of has went to $22 for a 44.1lb bag. now ive been feeding the ol roy bites and bones lately becasue its made buy purina and is almost the same as dog chow actually i think my dogs may be doing better on it and its just costing me $12 for a 40lb bag but now that the weather is cooling im looking for something with a little more fat to help mantain them a little better and was wondering what everyone was feeding and what was the cost.

The funny thing is I heard from dog food companies that the reason Dog food went up is because corn was almost $7 a bushell. Now corn is back down below $4. I wonder if the dog food prices will come back down now...lol...I doubt it.

Corn futures are down around $4, but the corn the feed supliers are using still cost them $6 - $ 7. The main problem is the amount of corn piled up in parts of the midwest with the government subsidies paying them to let it rot. Ethanol plants are closing, which means there is less demand for corn. Next year 35% less corn is to be planted than this year. With fuel and fertilizer prices being so high, it is not profitable to raise corn anymore. Peas, Beans, and some small grains are also going to come up short this spring. Get your garden seeds early and get ready for a 5% increase in feed. JMO

You join Purina Pro Club and you get back eight cent for every pound of feed you buy, eleven cent on the more exspesive foods you save the weight circles on the bags and send in to get your checks

I cant feed a corn based food. The food I have been feeding for years with excellent results Royal Canin's Sensible Choice chicken and rice has gone from $30 for a 40 lb bag to $50 for a 40lb bag and I got a letter from the company yesterday telling me they are stopping the breeders program which was buy 10 bags get one free. Now with this food you feed the dogs a lot less and it did well in the budget and in the dogs. Now for the first time, I too am looking for another option, however without being able to use corn, I am limited...

I checked it out, corn is the 2nd and 3rd ingredient in their maintenance and performance mixes. Thanks for the shot though.

On the points deal they changed the verbage on the checks that you get. The check now says one check per bag of dog food. I have $140.00 worth of checks that I used to go out and buy $140.00 worth of dog food with at one time. Now I have to use one $7 check per bag. That pisses me off and it sucks. If you like Purina food and live near a Petco then you should be in good shape. Petco gives you 1 free bag of food for every 10 that you buy, and then you use your pro club points on top of that.
