WHAT IS THE BEST FEMALE OUT THERE PRODUCING WISE . AFTER ALL IT TAKES TWO TO PRODUCE SO WITH THAT BEING SAID WHAT FEMALE OUT THERE WOULD YOU WANT A PUP FROM AND WHICH STUD DOG WOULD YOU BREED HER TO. I BELEIVE THE FEMALES GET LEFT OUT ALOT WHEN THE TALK STARTS OF REPRODUCING.

Adkins Jammin Jesse!

Ol Jessie was a good one that's for sure..we bred her to Fred and every pup in that litter was a true rabbit dog.

Thanks for thinking of her Drop_tine

Indian Hills Princess was a good one back in the day..I agree with Iris she produced several good hounds..this is a great post..the females never get enough credit but that is the key..instead of looking for a good stud dog..look inside your kennel at the female first that is where its at...good post!

What about Elk Creek Blue Babe. She seems to be in a lot of pedigrees. So does her mother Camp Creek Gertrude.

We had a really nice female. Unfortunately she died before we got to breed her again. Her name was Branko's Nadia. If you look she is in a few pedigree's out there. I know Branko bred her to Jackpot once and another male and got good ones. We bred her to Reggie and every pup out of that litter is a Rabbit Dog and possibly a trial hounds as well. 3 have placed in derbies and all should have placed if run. At 10 years old this female won a Large Pack on Hare in Wisconsin with 42 entries. She was awesome and I wish we had her back.

you do need a good female..........if you go back in the past, i would have to start with 1st anna's ann, 2nd ftch branko's close call girl, 3rd branko's speedy devil, 4th ifc branko's sassy sally, ftch branko's poetry in motion, thats just a few there are a ton out there and i know all i put was branko dogs but thats whzt is mostly in my peds, branko's close call girl she produced brankos jack of all trades, branko's speedy devil produced ifc branko's heli prop, and ifc branko's sassy sally i think is way up there on the reprioducing list if im not mistaken, but anna's ann has to be number 1 simply because she was the foundation for all of branko's kennel and i will be that alot of everyones dogs go back to anna's ann. but to be honets with you i have a male that i really like and i know the man that bred him and he still has his mother and she has only been bred twice and both litters have been awsome rabbit dogs, so ill take one from her anytime. but there are great ones everywhere and there are great ones in all the different bloodlines but #1 is anna;s ann, #2 ftch branko's close call girl, and 3rd branko's speedy devil, but by far anna's ann has to be number 1 on my list.

The reason females dont get the attention with breeding that they should is simple they cannot breed until they are in heat. They can only produce so many litters in a lifetime. With that said they are equally important as the stud in producing top hounds. A hound who does well in trials can be bred to every female that is brought to him, for the fee or a pup. In fact often times many good males are bred to inferior females just for a stud fee and the result is poor.

One of the things that is easy to judge about a good stud dog or a good female is how many of the prodgeny end up being sold either on the forum or the paper between 1-2 years old. You can pretty well judge what dogs are consistent producers as their pups or young started dogs are just not available. If a large amount of them are being sold the female or male are not reproducing like progeny. We just dont sell our best hounds they are too hard to come by.

I think a responsible breeder should consider strongly what he breeds his stud dog to. The female can make or break a breeding. Some stud dog owners wont breed to inferior females and I applaud them for it, as that is the only way to better the breed. Respect the bitches as much as you do the stud dogs.
