we were at the grand nationals a group of us were talking about judges a man who was there replied that a woman wins more casts then a man does i will not say who it was that made this comment i've got news for that man i have been running in arha for 3 years and it has not been easy winning a cast i have a very good male dog who only needs 15 points to become champion i've had him since march of this year and every cast he has won he has done it himself not just because i am handling him if it takes him 5 more years to get the 15 points he needs then that will be the way it will happen not just because i am a woman if thats the way they want to play just remember i judge to  signed by the woman who knows how to play the game too deeanna

Hey beagledogetw - Dont let them get under your skin, It is very rare that I see a woman handle a dog at a hunt, but I will admit that i had one cast with two lady handlers in it. Most of the time as a judge I can't even remember who owns what dog especially at a big hunt like the grand nationals. Some guys just need a reason to complain and the one that made the statement is probably one of them. I saw some real good lady handlers at the grand nationals Connie Swartz, Peggy Shields, and Patricia Bruner.

It seems like everyone has an excuse when they get beat.I dont particitate in the hunts much.I will add this one to my list of excuses.I heard another one the other day if anybody wants to use it .It is I got beat by a better hound today! I belive this is one most people have never heard.

beaglerdan this is not a excuse

Post by beagledogetw »

beagler dan how do you figure this is a excuse most men can not stand to be beat by a woman i'm not complaining of loosing it was only a comment that i heard if a loose a cast i go home i am not the kind of person that is in this for blood i'm in it because i enjoy listening to my dog run just like i told the man who made this comment if you can't run with the big dogs stay at home i do not make excuses if my dog does not win if he does not look good that day he does not deserve to win there is always another day the reason i wrote just because i'm a woman is because i know how a dog should run a rabbit just because i AM a woman does not mean i don't know what a dog should do :angryfire: i run dogs with my husband and friends all the time and i also judge with my husband you would not belive the strange looks i get when we walk to the casting area i try to do a good job when i judge i do not judge the handlers i judge the dogs the dog is running rabbits not the handlers and i have been in alot of casts where that happens it is not fair to the dog if he gets beat by a handler

WAY TO GO , DEE , CALL THEM LIKE YOU SEE THEM. IF THE HANDLERS RUN YOU CAN JUDGE THEM, BUT UNTIL THEN JUST PAY ATTENTION TO THE DOGS. THAT'S WHAT THE JUDGES DO, NEVER MIND THE SORE LOSERS. CONGRATS ON YOUR WIN. KEEP EM RUNNING.

I have noticed that the Clubs where I have seen women present usually have the best lunch to come back to as most do not handle dogs, but do a great job in the kitchen.

Anything that has husbands and wives, or, parents and children doing something together is a good thing.

I belive you have taken my post wrong.I am agreeing with you 100%.The men at the hunts cant stand to loose so a woman handler in the cast is just one more excuse they can add to the reasons they lost the cast men just hate to admit the were beat by a better hound on that day.Belive me I am in no way taking away from a womans knowledge of hounds or any other subject. So if I owe you an appology you have it.I agree with Big Dog most judges look at the dog not the handler weather it be a man or woman but if the judge gives the cast win to the lady, then the men have another excuse to add to his arsenel of excuses. He can say that judge only gave it to her dog because she was a woman! Its hard for him to go to her and say you have a nice hound as soon as I get a better one I will be back to get you......Then laugh together and go home with a new friend made. When he gets back to the club and his buddys say you got beat by a woman all he has to say is.I got beat by the dog an he was a good one with a good handler and just hope you dont draw her or the dog in the next round.Because if she does beat you I dont want to hear the excuse the judge only gave it to her because she is a woman handler.I for one will know better.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that women have been in beagling, as trainers, handlers, breeders since its inception. All one needs to do is grab the issue where we covered the history of the Vermont Beagle Club, or grab some old, old Hounds & Hunting magazines and count the women holding hounds in the pictures. Anyone who thinks it's strange to see a woman handling a hound probably hasn't been around beagling very long himself.

I for one am glad to see all the women at the hunts. I just got back into beagling about a year ago. Last spring I got back into field trialing. It is better than I have ever had it. My wife has gotten involved and really enjoys going to the trials. She handles one of my dogs on occassion and I have just put her own pup in the starting pen to get him ready for gun season. She is really starting to like the hunts more as she is getting to meet more and more women and she does not feel as out numbered as on other occasions. lol I always kid around with her and tell her that I want one of my dogs to champion so she is gonna have to start wearing a bikini when she handles. lol I feel that most judges do a fair job and actually go for the dog. I have been beaten by women and have beaten women at the trials and getting beat is no fun weither it is a man or a woman. lol I have been beaten by everyone so I guess it doesnt bother me too bad. I just like to see good dogs. I say ignore the rednecks and have fun.

By the way is the original post from the Lady whos dog kept coming to me at the State hunt? lol We renamed him BOOMER. If it is I still laugh about that. My dog Boomer was going to everyone but me and yours kept coming to me. lol

Well happy running.

Will

To beagledogetw - Did you have a red male in the finals of the champions at the grand nationals, if so is Josh from Rocky Hills kennels your son or related to you. I really liked that Tough Survivor dog that he handled, I had a chance to judge her and liked what I saw. She has a half sister that is tough also, I think her name is Banshee, she is owned by Tom Langenhorst. She is a tough dog too.

I met Bobby Vest at the GRand Nationals, Seemed like a real nice guy, as a matter of fact I am thinking of getting a dog from him for a friend of mine. I am not going to enter any dogs at the little world but I will be there on saturday. l will be on my way to Iowa to hunt for a week and I am picking up two of my dogs that Dale Peters has been conditioning for about a month. He is going to bring them to the Little World for me. I'll look you up
