Go look at Junebug Newsom's hounds..that was enough for me to give it a try.I don't feel like paying 23.00 for 44 lb when I can get 50 for 15 and some change. I will evaluate it on my hounds..and see.
Josh have you tried it? if so which formula? I know he has several ones...
thanks
Brad

i switched from prina dog chow to sextons about two months ago and love i feed the 20/20 but all ao my runnin buddies feed the purple bag. i run three to four days a week a nd my dogs look great have plenty of energy and a lot less of a mess to clean up. but to each his own just think you get more bang for your buck and your also helping out a local company

Ive fed the White 24/18 for a While. I have had good luck with it. I fed the purple several years ago the dogs looked good but it was messy in the kennel as far as waste goes.

Went to the site and looked at the ingred. its all corn, meat and bone meal, and corn glutant. I would not feed it to my farm dogs let alone my expensive hunting dogs. I know feed is high, but so are groceries and I dont cut corners feeding my kids and I wont cut corners feeding my dogs. I will bitch about it, but I will pay. Good luck with the feed anyhow.

besides the white bag
and like these guys are telling ya some people have good luck with it
but i never did
i do feed there new 14-10 to my house dog
8.50 for 50 pound seems to keep him ok i have to feed him alot and his kennel is a mess
sextons bros may be ok give it a try but for me ill stick with black gold

well..not bashing Black Gold..but never had any luck with it...I have swore by Purina for years and in my opinion it is still top notch feed...but I can't see spending that much difference..
Seems to me like people are saying" if you feed that your dogs won't be any good" "Better feed this you will win the big one" ..stop looking for feed..look for you a dog.
I got my suspicions about all this jacked up feed anyhow..how many people are having heat cycle probs? could it be too much steroids in the meat processed to make the feed? try switching feed if you got a dog that pops off..they are too pumped up..
Not bashing anything..but I do have my suspicions..anyone else??

Ok, this is my 2 cents, for whatever it's worth.
I don't feed Sexton's Bro, so obviously I can't give a firsthand rating ... But I did look @ the website and there IS a reason the food is so low priced. This was the ingredient list for the 27/16 feed:
Corn, Corn Gluten Meal, Meat and Bone Meal, Soybean Meal, Wheat, Distillers Dried Grain with Solubles, Animal Fat Preserved with BHA, Choline Chloride, Calcium Carbonate, Rice Hull, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc sulfate, Vitimin E Supplement, Niacin Supplement, Sodium Selenite, Copper Sulfate, d-Calcium Panththenate, Folic Acid, Vitamin A Acetate in Gelatin, Manganous Oxide, d-Biotin, vita-min B I2 Supplement, Vitamin D3 Supple-ment, Riboflavin Supplement, Puridoxine Hydrochloide, Ethylenediamine Dihydriodide and Thiamine Mononitrate.
While the feeds with the most elaborate ingredient lists aren't necessarily the best, the most basic way to determine if a feed might be quality is to look at what's inside. I'll tell you one thing. This feed is NOT 27% protein - not bioavailable protein, anyway. Dogs get plenty of use from grains but being primarily carniverous, they do need meat. Meat is the 3rd ingredient on the list and only two sources of animal based protein out of all 9 basic ingredients
Second major problem here is the BHA used to preserve the animal fat. It is as cheap as cheap can get and has been tested on lab rats & found to have carcinogenic properties (meaning it can cause cancer) and also has been known to affect the kidneys.
I'm hurting by gas prices and the high cost of everything except the air we breath as much as the next guy. I try to be as economical as possible with food for myself and the dogs but won't feed myself things that will save a few bucks but cause problems down the line. Feed is more than something that keeps the dogs alive - it should keep them healthy, too.

I feel the same way, 100%. I was even having the heat cycle problems myself late last year, and it was directly related to the feed. I was using Eukanuba on/off for 8 yrs and even that started making the dogs sick almost 2yrs ago. There is something in the feed, that's for sure. Steroids, hormones, chemicals ... or a combo of all three. But something is wrong with it the past 2-3 + yrs.
My dogs are mainly fed raw again plus will mix leftover meat scraps in the feed. Sometimes I can get chicken parts for .69lb or under and will either give raw or have been known to cook it with rice or oatmeal in the crockpot. Can't beat it for quality and it's not very costly either. Course I have too many dogs to do this every day but every little bit helps. I do not trust dog feed anymore.

Brad, I know Freemon and Dean and actually used to do a lot of work for them on their fork trucks ,They are fine people to deal with and I don't blame any one wanting to keep their business local,But I switched to Purina about a year ago after feeding Sexton Bros. for years,I seem to have less problems with worms and hot spots now and my dogs have more stamina than they did,but I am felling the pinch now too,and I just bought A 50Lb bag Of The Pride in the black bag,I can buy it local and I am willing to give it a shot,If it doesn't work out I may go back to Sexton bros. and try the new blend to see how it does,Keep us posted,Denny

sextons is great dog food...........................
if ya dont run your dogs more then once a week, dont care how thier coats look, like loose runny stool, like dogs with no energy, and like goin to hunts just to get your butt kicked and donate money..............
not tryin to bash anyone, but, this is what happened to me and my hounds when i fed it,it is junk,my vet explained it to me,the stuff used to make cheap food like sextons will test to show 26% or whatever protien, but when your dogs bodies pass non usuable protien out, they are only getting about 10% useable protien,so,your dogs health, energy level, looks and everything suffer..........
trust me brad, dont do it,you have too good of dogs to go there,i tried thier feed, like the other post said, they where constintly wormt, sick, lost fur, ect.they went straight downhill, switched to purina, totally different dogs in less then three weeks, remember when i told ya about the time stretch went enimic due to his protien level being drastically low?????
i had him at a guys runnin pen,the guy was conditioning him for me,i was not aware that he was feeding the dogs sextons, stretch went from winning hunts every weekend to not hitting the scorecard, had bloodwork done, his protien level was so low,and he was still ran day inand day out,his body was breaking itself down to keep goin because the sextons wasnt replacing the protien and vitimins he was using up while he was getting conditioned, the dog was practically on his death bed, needles to say,the guy saw this happening to all the dogs and he switched to purina hi pro, still not my favorite, but ok...........
trust me brad, switchin to sextons is a bad move........
