Hey, I have the potential to get a mouse colored beagle. I know there are rumors flying around about that particular color and skin issues. If you have one of these kind of dogs, please post a pic for me. I would like to see them full grown. I am always happy to have something "different" than the "normal" or "stereotypical" beagle. I have seen pics of them when they are little pups (like below), just wondering what they turn out to be.

I had one small problem with kiwi when she was a little pup but it wasn't that bad and she was good as new in about two weeks or so, and to be honest with you she has one of the best coat I have ever had on any of my dogs. It was nothing serious. The rest I have never had an ounce of problems with! Hope this helps you out some. I would say if it's the style of dog that you like and it has the potential to do what you want it to do then don't be afraid to get it.

Murphy's White Sox

I have had 3 Blue dogs in the past couple of years,cannot post pic.Just had a litter out of a solid blue female and did not get a blue pup.The only problem
I have had is the ears,when ran in the rough stuff they will loose most of the hair off their ears.It doesnt seem to bother the dogs but looks bad.

I have two that color now and one has never had much hair on her from the day she was born. She is out of the Moonjack dog that I owned and there was four that color out of a litter of ten and she has produced three this color her self. Joy is a good rabbit dog but she doesn't get hunted as much as she should because when I run her regular she looses most of her hair and the briars scratch her skin up awful bad but it doesn'r seem to bother her but it just makes her look so bad. My uncle has a litter mate brother to her and he has plenty hair and the only place that gets thin on him is his ears. All my were born that color and never changed as they got older, just added a little more tan around the face and head. I like the odd color dogs also but I usually don't keep the ones that come out that color because of the skin problems they usually have.Sorry i don't have any pictures but all mine looked just like the ones above and still do at 2 years old.

A vet explained to me several years ago about "mousy" "gray" "blue" whatever you want to name them. The gray hair is a genetic defect caused by the black and white hair genes mixing to cause a form of mutation. The most common way to get these pups is for both parents to have this gene, but it can happen naturally with a higher occurance among inbred crosses. Most will result in unusual hair loss and skin conditions but not always. A friend of mine has one that does not seem to have any trouble, and is very tough dog.

This seems to be quite common with dogs heavily bred with Jack of all Trades. Someone posted an interesting article on this condition a couple years ago that was very informative.

My Dam had nine pups on Friday, and one female is a mousy, blue, gray (not sure what to call this color). I wonder too what she will turn out to look like. However, if she turns out to look like Murphy's White Sox that would be fantastic! Thanks for the info. K

Thanks KC thats very nice of you to say. He was silver looking when he was a pup but as he grew up he became more like a charcoal. He is a real nice jump dog and hunts hard. Hits the briars and thick stuff. He has a litter of puppies on the ground right now but unfortunately they didn't turn out grey. I think they all turned out to be blueticks but not for sure. The man who has them is gonna try to sale a couple females so if anybody interested holler at me. But sorry guys got off subject a little. i have 2 grown that color you can look at 1 male name goast 1 female name star http://www.campsbeagles.com also have 2 pups out of that cross that were born july 13, 2008.will try to put their pic. on here they are not on website yet.their eyes are blue right know.

I have three litter mate sisters that will soon turn two years old. I haven't had a skin problem with any of them and I run mine hard. Not sure what causes the color. I too have heard that it is some kind of defect. All I know is that their mother is blue and in their litter of 7 all 4 of the females were blue like their mother. I have one female that is with pups now, and I can't wait to see what colors she produces.

keep in mind both parents must carry the gene that produces the blue to get blue...
