the problem is with our IDNR div. of fish and wildlife

Post by jackrabbit »

Indiana Department of Natural Resources is made up of dozens of Divisions. Each division has its own agendas and tend to become inbred. the division that is causing the sportsmen problems right now is its own division of fish and wildlife. We have biologists, specialists, and a head of biology that are taking a wildlife only approch to our resources. some of them have made comment such as ..... if it was up to them no one would be on state land, it would just grow up to be what it becomes. and... i dont care about the people i just care about wildlife. These IDNR employees have forgotten who is paying the tab, and why they were hired in the first place. many of them are book trained specialists that dont hunt or fish. Our head of biology for instance actually went rabbit hunting once. They have become to emotionally involved in what they are doing and prefer to leave the sportsman and woman out of the equation.

Division of fish and wildlife in indiana would like to close all dog training on state land from feb. 28 to oct. 1 of each year. Indiana has one of the largest rabbit hunting groups and field trialing groups of all the states. Our tradition has always allowed us to train our dogs on a year round basis. not only does all the research available indicate that our dogs have no negative effect on wildlife, but there is also no research that indicates that any of the states that have implemented restrictions have more small game than Indiana. Our legislators are listening to us, and its getting Division director Goss and Deputy director Davis's attention. At the present time F & W has amended its proposal to making designated dog training areas on all state properties that dont currently have them, closing those areas from april 15 to august 15, and leaving 4 training areas open during that time span. The Alliance has Mr. Goss and Mr. Davis assurance that there will be more than that left open. a verbal agreement had the number at 10 areas left open, but they are wavering on that now......WE WILL SEE WHAT TRANSPIRES LATER THIS WEEK AT THE INTERIM SENATE SUMMER STUDY COMMITTEE MEETING.

please email John Goss jgoss@dnr.state.in.us and tell him to honor his agreement to keep the dog training areas open. Remind him that the sportsmen and women turned out in force at the open houses to send them a mandate to leave them open. also remind him that bordering states do not have anymore small game than indiana does. you can send an email to Mr. Goss even if you dont live in Indiana.

Thank You

Dog running outlawed

Post by trackman »

Jack,
Don't know how much it will help, but I just put your post up on the front page of my website, in bright big red letters. I really would hate to see this happen. We have strict guidelines here in Jersey about when and where you can do anything hunting related and it is almost like you have to have a guidebook just to know the wheres and whens. I would hate to see it happen somewhere else and I will be sending it on to everyone I know to have them email as well as doing it myself. Good luck with it and I really hope it does not go through!

Indiana can use all the help it can get..... our IDNR is fond of copy cat rules. They look at what other states are doing, take the most restrictive and run with... they know they are not going to get everything they want so they try to take it all hoping to end up with more than they wanted in the first place. In this situation IDNR didnt realize the sportsmen and women of Indiana would stand up for their themselves. We are far from being out of the woods. and there are self-serving groups here in the state that care only for what they think, rather than looking at the big picture. We are all in this together and should we divide into groups we will be defeated. one such group is the Indiana Deer Hunters Association. ( by the way, if you are or know of a member of that group pleas let me know.... ive been looking for two years now and havent found one. ) Dave Delaney and Doug Allman of that group are not a friend to the sportsmen. They will tell you they are, but then turn around support closing all state ground to dog training when hunting seasons are not in. Doug has said that sometimes you have to tell the sportsmen and women what is good for them. And Delaney is now courting the fringe groups that are mostly bird watchers and tree huggers in an attempt to muster the support to derail the compromise aggreement that we have with IDNR and the legislators. should that happen folks, and we will know in a few weeks, We will need to have hundreds of you attending the natural resource commissions meeting in Indy when IDNR presents its proposal. At this point i have no indication that there will be a problem.

Thanks again

Indiana has fallen in love with deer and turkey hunters, because the vast majority of people can do these without any real preparation. That plus, they spend a lot more money in the stores than the average small game hunter. I do not know too many people that hunt deer that are very fond of houndsmen. I can imagine that nothing would make the indiana deer hunters association more happy than to have no rabbit hunting in indiana at all. It is unfortunate that different groups of sportsmen are so narrow minded, and cannot work together.

deer and turkey

Post by jackrabbit »

im not finding the fellows that are in clubs like pheasants forever, wild turkey federation or the average hunter, including deer hunters, upset with us.... fact is all of them have many members that are in total support of our efforts. The Indiana Field Trialers Association is on our side also. The fellows out hunting think differantly The only ones really pushing for the 100% closing of state land in the spring and summer is Delaney and Allman. Even his buddies on the site Delaney bought have disagreed with him. and i think Allman has to problems..... he has his head to far up fish and wildlifes backside, and he doesnt like it that i pushed him hard early on.... the first is just an irratation to us. the second is a personal problem on his part. The sad part is that the Alliance will still back any issues that they bring up that is in the sportsmens best interest. Neither I nor the Alliance would be willing to get back at two skunks in a way that causes the good sportmen to smell also.
